Budget is around 900

1 GTX 980 is enough at the moment. You can add one later on.

GTX Titan X or R5 230 .. depends on your budget...

R5 230? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

without know the rest of the spec and the resolution you will be playing

based on that budget of yours will be the GTX980

otherwise the GTX970 SLi will be decent

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Resolution is an important aspect to consider.

For 1080p gaming, either the GTX 980 or its Ti version is gonna be a waste of your money for all but a few games.

For 4K gaming, a single GTX 980 isn't going to be able to push for a desired smooth framerate with high settings. Thus, unless you're willing to turn the textures down to medium or low settings then a SLI GTX 980 setup is a must.

For 1440p resolutions, the 980s are meant for that resolution. You'll be getting decent 40+ FPS framerates provided by you system isn't being bottlenecked by other components of your PC.

At this point, there is no point even mentioning the GTX 980 ti because there have been no leaks whatsoever regarding the card. You can always wait for more news, but if you're in a rush to start gaming, then waiting on the GTX 980 ti is pointless.

Hope it helps! Lemme know any mistakes k!

I have have a i7 4770k @ 4.2 ghz and 16 gb's of ram at 1600. MHz 256 gb SSD and 2 x 2 TB WD red's

And I plan on replacing a ASUS 7970 3Gb

Still, resolution? A 7970 will be more than enough for 1080p.
