It looks clean enough to me.... & Really Gateway?

DevilishBooster

My grandma's neighbor gave me her late husband's Gateway PC (c. 2001) and so today I'm cleaning and testing it. I don't think it was ever cleaned once.........

Also, what is with Gateway using wood screws to attach the fans to their stock socket mPGA-478-B heatsinks by running them between heatsink fins??? Both used Gateways that I've gotten were mounted like this.

What is that, is tha- OH MY GOD!

That was pretty much my exact reaction. :D

It's a Gateway, I'm surprised the fans weren't attached with hot glue and duct tape.  ;)

Yeah, I've never owned a Gateway until a couple months ago when I got my first one. Definitely not impressed.... I'm going to be buying some aftermarket socket 775 tower coolers and seeing if I can mod any to fit on my 478 systems.

Please dust that immediately and post clean pics, for our collective sanity.

Is that a wood screw? I though that was exclusive to nvidia.

Yup, that is most definitely a wood screw. This is the second Gateway I've gotten in the last few months, and in both the heatsink fan was mounted with wood screws that go down into the fins of the heatsink.

That looks like a metal screw not a wooden one

Well, it boots right up with no issues. The CRT monitor (that I got with the computer) wasn't displaying anything so I'll have to troubleshoot that at another time. Gonna clean up the drive and set it up to run Folding @ Home 24/7.
