Ikea lighting

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

These are NOT pc led strips and are NOT mean to be run off a fan header. You are lucky you didn't fry your motherboard doing that.

If you want led strips in your PC you need to buy ones that plug into molex, or ones with a controller such as the NZXT Hue, or other remote controlled PC led strips.

Hello everyone,

i've got these ikea lights laying around and i want to use them for my computer, i can hook them up in series and connect them to a fan header but then they are really dim and red, but with the remote and stuff they give you you get all the colors and they are much brighter :( any way of fixing this? (ive tried turning the fan speed up in the bios, doesn't work)

I have the MSI Z97 U3+ mobo, and the lighting is the ikea 16670  (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20119418/)

yes, it can definitely fry your motherboard

never plug an LED strip into a fan port...

using the original controller is a good idea

I haven't looked at the RGB Strips from Ikea closely, but, you may see what the power supply voltage is, and instead of the power supply, use the +12v from a molex connector. The white only strips I have, have an inline 120vAC to 12V DC adapter.
