for that price rage id recommend the r9 280x, it should sit nicely in your budget.

In that pricerange id recommend a R9 280x, But id rather recommend you to wait and get a R9 290/x or GTX 970.

if you can't stretch to a 970/290/290x then i'd say get a 280X, better performance, more memory bandwidth and more vram than the 960. but try to go for a 970 or 290x. those are much better cards.

gtx 960 is very power efficient and newer card ,
but 280x is more powerfull .
both are good in their own ways .
your power supply would be more "relaxed" with gtx 960 .

i agree with all the above posts. while the 280x i recommend is within budget, you're kind of limiting your very capable system with a mid range card. 970/290x are the sweet spot 1080/1440p cards.

to be fair, the psu would still have tons of headroom with a 280X, even a 290x wouldn't max it out by any stretch.

true , but corsair CX series power supplies are only mediocre units at best .

although i would not say "tons of headroom" , definitely no with 290x and overclocked cpu .

i wouldn't call them mediocre. i'd call them average, but certainly not mediocre.

the truth is you can buy budget friendly seasonic or XFX (made by seasonic) units with better capacitors ,
better voltage regulation and better ripple suppression for the same or similar price .

GTX 960 is a great $200 card.

It's very power efficient, I'll tell you that.

Yeah but it sucks for the price.

280x beats it by far.

128bit memory bus really crippled its performance .
it´s a nice little card , but it could have been much better .
now we have to wait for 960Ti (hopefully with 3gb of vram and 192bit memory bus)

it was more than just the 128 bit bus. honestly that isn't even its biggest issue. the gpu itself is exactly half of a gtx 980, from memory controllers, to ROPs, to texture mapping units. all of it is exactly half of the 980. in sli it isn't even substantially more powerful than a 970. it really should have been the 950ti rather than the 960 in all honesty but that's just my opinion.

i agree that i'd like to see a 960 ti based on a more cut down gm 204. but i honestly doubt that will happen.

we will have to wait and see .
i wanted gtx 960 myself for my new build ,
but i found 270x for 138 euros from the reliable retailer about a week ago and bought it
(nice deal considering the cheapest gtx 960s are selling for 215 right now and other 270x cards for about 185)
now i can afford to sit back for a while and wait for the new radeons .
