Is the 970 better than a 780?

Yes.

More powerful, more vRAM, less power, less cost. Definitely a wonderful card. HOWEVER... don't upgrade from a 780 to a 970, that isn't worth it at all.

The projects never end in my line of work.

Is the 970 better than a 780?

Yep. 970 is better.

Runs cooler, uses less power and has 1GB more VRAM (Or 0.5GB more usable VRAM..)

That's a pretty darn good price.

The advice price is 350 USD and they cost 400 euros at the moment where I live.

970 supports DX12, while 780 doesn't. So I'd say 970, though its a bit silly buying a GPU now, rather than waiting a few months for the 300-series.

all new or year old cards will support dx12
