970 for 1440p?

I'm about to start a new build in the near future, and I'm torn as to what to do.  I know most people would normally say go for the 980 because of the whole 3.5gb mess, but I'm trying to keep price down as much as I can.  So I really want to know from someone who has a single 970 and a 1440p monitor how does it run on ultra in most games. thanks.

It should run pretty decently, you might have to turn down a few settings though.

Since you're on a budget, wait untill the 300-series from AMD comes, this might lead to a price drop with the 900 series. If not, then you might find a better amd card for the same price as the 970 :3

970 is fine for 1440p it will get around 45-65 fps ultra in most new game at 1440p without aa

3.5GB will be enough unless youre planning to play games like skyrim or shadow of mordor at max settings with ultra textures

I don't know if you will get 60+ with Ultra, but you should be fine with high settings in most games.

Thanks for the replies, and I kind of shy away from AMD anything due to bad experiences in the past, but like you said Noxz maybe it will drop the price on the 900 series.
