Hello all,

Looking to make the plunge into X99 but am looking for a good motherboard. I am drawn to the gigabyte x99 ud5 . I have been using the ultra durable boards for a good long while not without much issue. What I am looking for is any feedback on this board and/or recommendations on another board. I am not too fond of Asus, but if they offer better value I would consider it. I am going to pair a 5820k with it for now with dual gtx970s for the time being.

Thanks

Gigabyte X99 boards have allot of troubles with their biosses.

The bios keeps unstable and crashing so now and then, atleast that is the most complains that have read about them, so far.

Thanks for that thread. What boards are recommended these days. I assume some are functioning better than others.

Funny enough, Asrock seems to be the most headace free atm. lol.

Asus had also allot of issues with the Deluxe, and some particular ram kits, and overclocking.

Asus has allready broaght out some new biosses, so i assume, that most issues are solved with that.

Going to head over to my local microcenter likely saturday take a look at some boards and then purchase processor/board combo.  Memory I will have to order from Newegg, but no issues there.

Gigabyte had awful boards back when X79 was the enthusiast chipset and it seems they have continued the trend. Asus have had a lot of BIOS problems as well to the point that VRM as burning out and taking with them the processors as well. Although this problem was specific for the X99 Delux, and this is coming from a hardcore Asus fan, I wouldn't trust them this time around.

I currently have an ASRock X99M board and it has been rock solid thus far and I have had no trouble overclocking my 5960X to 4.5GHz and running my RAM at it's rated speed. ASRock comes highly recommended from me!

i totaly agree with this.

Asrock simply works :)

i´m personaly not realy brand biassed.

But i allways like to do some research my self wenn a new platform hits the market.

I have readed allot of reviews, user experiances, and owner threads on diffrent community´s, about diffrent boards and brands.

In my opinnion Asrock still does not get enough credits for what they have achieved with their X99 line up.

I'll take a look at the Asrocks, but I have not been a big fan.  Tried them a couple of years ago for a friends build, and it was an absolute nightmare.  Maybe they got it together, and I should take a look.  To be honest, I was still looking at the Gigabytes (UD5 and Gaming G1) and the Asus X99 Deluxe.  I had been reading about Asus seems to have their Bios issues mostly sorted and the same with Gigabyte to an extent.  Seems that the UD5 has become more stable with the F9 bios I believe.  Not sure yet about the G1 Gamer.  Hadn't seen anything to sway me one way or another on that front.  The only other board I had considered Microcenter doesn't carry and that is the EVGA X99 Classified, but no worries on that front.  I am a big fan of EVGA and their customer support.  Microcenter does have the FTW edition but, it is lacking M.2 which I would like on the board.

I own a Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5 and a ASUS X99-S. The ASUS has unbearable DPC latency and is useless for audio work. The Gigabyte on the other hand has been issue-less on the latest BIOS!

Sorry for the massive pictures :/

X99-S DPC when reading / writing to an SSD (not driver related, UEFI / Firmware related):

Iha7u0c.jpg

Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5 (same test):

dguYUVX.png

To be honest both are bad but the Gigabye is usable.

The ironic thing is the ASUS X99-S was full price (£250 I think) and the Gigabyte was £127 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141567585561?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)

Also the amp on the Gigabyte is immense. You can really EQ it unlike the ASUS. That surround sound mode + 24Db boost on the lower frequency + ATH-M30's = heaven! It also will EQ the line in! Just don't have the volume over 20-30 or you'll blow your head up xD (sound control panel: http://imgur.com/a/tMby6)

I am kind of between UD5 and X99 Deluxe at this point.  Still sight unseen however.  With that said, I can see pros and cons to both boards.  Would seem the UD5 slot layout is better would allow me to bring my sound card over from my current rig.  THe UD5 also seems to have clear cut triple and/or quad sli.  I would likely go triple, but the option exists.  On the flip side, the X99 Deluxe has the additional pins in the CPU socket for better overclocking.  The Slot layout does seem to allow me to bring my sound card over.  What PCI express slots would be used for Dual and Triple SLI on the Deluxe?  Bear in mind I am coupling this with the 5820K.

The Gaming G1 is still an option, I am just not sure it offers the same pluses that the UD5 has other than Sound Core 3d.

Gigabyte seems to be problem free since the most recent updates.

Intel 4790 K - R9 295X2 - Gigabyte Z97-SLI - Corsair Vengeance Pro Black 1866 CAL9 - Corsair HX 1000 -Samsung 850 EVO SSD - Samsung HDD - H100I - Corsair C70 - G400 Logitech - Asus VS247H - WASD custom mechanical and QCKPAD!

Goodnight, that is what I have been reading myself.  I was kind of pushing towards the Gigabytes for the slot layout primarily.  Sure it seems the Asus has more bells and whistles, but I just keep getting drawn to the Gigabyte.  They must have drugged me with something real good.

I love my Gigabyte board. I think it's normal when a new tech comes out that some companies won't get it right right away. The important thing is that they acknowledged it and legit worked to fix it and now it's doing fine. Also having dual bios for OC'ing always nice.

Well it would seem I might have to consider the Asus X99 Deluxe.  I would not be able to run tri-sli on the Gigabyte boards with the 5820k.  As a user on another forum has indicated to me, SLI does not operate in x4 mode.  With the 5820k, Gigabyte operates at x16/x8/x4.  On the flip side, the Asus board will run x8/x8/x8 with 5820k.  Guess it pays to research and ask questions.

Correction: Seems UD5 and Gaming G1 can run at x8/x8/x8 according to their manuals a video that Linus did over at linus tech tips.

I took a look at the 5930k with the UD5.  Talking about a $150 price increase going that route.  Not really too sure if that makes sense.  As far as I know and please correct me if I am wrong, an X8/X8/X8 isn't much of a performance look graphically speaking.

8X in PCI 3 changes nothing from 16X for now. Even on 980's.

Meant to read not much of a performance hit.  At most an FPS.  With all that said, I am back to status quo.  While I like the look of the Asus board, I like the layout of the Gigabytes better.  I will get an up close and personnel look at them tomorrow.  I know my microcenter has the x99 Deluxe and UD5 in stock.  The gaming G1 is showing an open box which I am not so much inclined to buy.
