Hey guys,

I am planning a build based on the x79 platform and here's the stuff I have bought-

Rampage iv extreme motherboard

Corsair h100i

Seasonic 150xm

16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

Now, other components that will go in the rig-

3930k/3820

gtx 760 sli/gtx 780

nzxt phantom 820/nzxt switch810/obsidian 800d/ any other in you may suggest

Here's the deal guys, my budget is a bit tight now and I don't know whether to go with 3820 and gtx 780 or 3930k and gtx 760 sli and I am a bit confused about the case as well. Please guys help. Oh yeah and I am going to overclock the stuff.

3930K for the CPU. What do you plan on doing with this rig exactly? Gaming and editing?

save up till u can afford both the 3930k and the 780       and the case isnt as important as people say it is if ur tight on budget that's where i recommend you cheap out at the max a $50 vs a $250 case will have a 5 degree diff in temp

Hello there! If you are going to be gaming the 4 core i7-3820 will be the best solution. Most games these days will not be able to utilize all the power available on the 3930K. But if you are going to be video editing, encoding, using Folding@Home and other CPU intensive tasks, the 3930K is the way to go. If in the future you need more power you can always upgrade to the 3930K or the upcoming Ivy-E platform CPUs.

Also FYI, overclocking is not covered under warranty by Intel, if you are going to overclock I recommend getting the Intel Performance Tuning Protection Plan which covers overclocking on Intel CPUs for a small cost. More info here http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Well I'd be gaming and I would overclock my hardware.

Just go with LGA1155/1150. (z77/z87)

LGA2011 (X79) is not made to be for a budget build.

with 55/50 you'll save some money, you'll be able to oc your stuff, and you'll have something great for gaming.

For gaming, 4670K or 3570K. 3930K and 3820 would be a waste.

and at this point windows is moving over to tablet os' so the extra cores will make even less of a difference and the ghz are a huge thing 2600k will get u 4.6 easy but good luck hitting 4ghz with a lga2011 and the $ difference is huge

You probably can't even find 2600Ks anymore. If you go with 1155, get the Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Or if you want to be able to upgrade in the future, get haswell.

you got lucky with yours but still for gaming the 2600k is better and for rendering the cpu becomes irrelevant once u get 2 780s and its like half the price once u factoring mobo prices

anyone can get to 4.5 ghz with h100i i could of got more but didnt care that much 4.5 seemed enough

3930k is way better than 2600k in gaming both can be OC ed really high theres 500Mhz diffrence that you will get from a OC ed 2600k vs a OCed 3930k but with 2 more cores you get more horsepower. 2600k is more wallet friendly and a smarter choice but if you are like me who wants the best 2600k v 3930k = 3930k by a mile

yes it does out preform it but price to performance the 2600k is the better choice, the 3930k + mobo= 2x 2600K + mobo and his budget is 2500 ur cpu and graphics cards like mine = more than that

For gaming you should seriously think about investing in the graphics cards instead of the motherboard and CPU. I would go with a 4770K since you seem to like the big amount of threads and then get a 780 SLI.

Case: 650D CPU: i5 4670K GPU: GTX 770 Gaming @1306MHz Motherboard: MAXIMUS VI Hero PSU: AX760 CPU Cooler: H100i RAM: 8GB Vengeance Pro @1866MHz Storage: 840 250GB SSD / 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14

If you are gaming you wouldn't need such a powerful cpu. You only need a 3930k if you are planning to do rendering/editing video. I would just get a 4670k and a GTX 780.
