I kept the regular GTX 980 just because it matches the green and black theme better, and doesn't sacrifice much performance or cost.

Nop, still has the dildo mobo.

Helping my friend plan his first pc build, he's got a good budget and wants something that will do great with gaming, upgradeability, and productivity with programs such as photoshop at a higher resolution such as 1440p or 4k.

Here's the build, yes you could pick cheaper parts but they would be quite ugly.

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor  ($299.99 @ Micro Center)

We are not sure what monitor to go with, considering all of the upcoming IPS monitors. He would like a 1440p+ IPS monitor <$750. I would recommend something like the Dell P2715Q or the Asus PB279Q, but it just doesn't seem like a good time to purchase an expensive monitor. Let me know your opinions, thanks.

@Anthony10,

There really isn't any need for the SilentWings fans. The stock fans in the H440 are pretty good.

On X99 4x4GB is a better memory configuration as it allows for quad-channel operation. Since the motherboard can use 16GB modules, up to 64GB of additional memory can be added later.

According to http://www.anandtech.com/show/8959/ddr4-haswell-e-scaling-review-2133-to-3200-with-gskill-corsair-adata-and-crucial/10, DDR4-2400 CL15 or better is optimal.

The Dark Rock Pro 3 is an awfully big tower. I would worry about getting good cooling on the heavier duty heat sinks of an X99 motherboard. You may want to consider an AIO like the Kraken X61 which is has a quiet mode that is quite good.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Changed the cooler to a green AIO, so those extra fans are unnecessary. Changed the RAM to a quad channel and it still works out cheaper, and matches. Changed the mobo for something far more reputable (that MSI board has horror stories, it's a haunted board). I added 2 HDD's instead of the singular because they can be RAID 0'd to effectively double reads and writes, which is great for workload stuff (could change it to 2 3TB drives if you want). Changed the GPU to the G1 Gaming from Gigabyte, even though the little light on it isn't green, you could just colour it in with a dry-wipe felt pen and it's green. It will perform better too, both quieter and cooler than the reference. Changed the PSU to something more cost efficient, you ain't gonna see it under the shield in the H440, so why go nuts for something that will be invisible?

All in all everything costs less except the cooler which is around the same, and the mobo which is a bit more pricey. But it works out cheaper overall in the end, so you're already winning some.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely change the RAM, CPU cooler, and fans. The motherboard I have not heard bad things about, but I'll definitely research it.

Even though this isn't the stock cooled GPU with the green light, it does have a small light on it, all you need to do is use a green dry-wipe pen and colour the top of the light, and boom; green led. The card also looks nicer than the stock card. As for the rest, you weren't looking for bang for buck as well as looks. I fixed most of the problems.

@Anthony10,

The Asus X99-A is a better motherboard IMO.

The EVGA 750W psu that everyone seems to like is the 220-G2-0750-XR, not the 120-G1-0750-XR.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll definitely reconsider the motherboard and change the PSU. As for the GPU, I'm still leaning towards the stock just because the buyer and I both prefer it's aesthetics. Thanks so much for the help!
