Let's test some old tech. [Apu + Gpu test]

Hello guys,

This isn't really a build log since I don't have any pictures from the build, but I will be upgrading this and test some old tech.

I "upgraded" my parents pc with some old stuff that was laying around.

The specs are as following:

APU: Amd a8-3800

Mobo: No name

RAM: 4Gb 1333Mhz

Gpu: Amd Radeon 6450 1Gb

Case: a Compaq case

Hdd: Wd blue 1Tb.

I hope to upgrade this in the future to a Fm2+ system and do some test on that.

I will be testing the APU with 4Gb 1333 Mhz first then with 8Gb 1866Mhz. And as last I will test it in dual graphics mode.

The games I will be testing it on are for now:

Battlefield 3

League of legends

Trine 2

Warframe

Benchmark software:

3DMark

Heaven

valley

But I need more (free) games to test it so if you guys got some games to use as benchmarks feel free to say it to me.

Try Warframe and some of the benchmark softwares.

Such as 3DMark and Heaven and valley benchmark

WARFRAME HYPE TRAIN

WF is pretty well optimized, it's just buggy.

My brother seems to like it a lot, so that's why I usually recommend it as a F2P game and for benchmark stuff

Yes it's a great f2p game, but the game itself is complex and DE does a horrible job of explaining stuff, so people assume it's pay to win unfortunately.

I love it. I use it for league of legends, it is just great to program your own buttons and have them close to each other. Only bad thing is that I don't have a good excuse to buy a mechanical keyboard :/

I did some testing on League of Legends today.

I had the settings on Medium with no anti-ailiasing and V-sync

It still looked great tho:

For the benchmarking I used the following method. I created a custom game and used the same champions everytime to get almost the same scenario every benchmark. I went bottom lane and stayed there till I had 1000 coins without farming but with 1 kill. Then I went to top lane and started fighting 3v3 to see if it made a different in Framerate.

I tested the APU with different RAM speed. With 1333Mhz and with 1886Mhz. Sadly I only have a 4Gb module and a 8gb module but League of Legends only needs 2Gb of RAM so it isn't a big deal. I also tested it with only a GPU and with dual graphics mode.

The results were as following:

4Gb 1333Mhz + Apu:

Min fps:  29

Max Fps: 41

Avg Fps: 32

8Gb 1886Mhz + Apu:

Min fps:  41

Max fps: 55

Avg Fps: 47

8Gb 1886Mhz + Gpu + Apu

Min Fps: 44

Max Fps: 58

Avg Fps: 48

8Gb 1886Mhz + Gpu

Min Fps: 53

Max Fps: 74

Avg fps: 63

As you can see is there a big different between the dual graphics and with only the GPU. It is weird that the Dual Graphics mode got less fps than the Gpu alone. It is maybe caused by the drivers I will try the test again with some older drivers and see if it chances.

The next tests I will do Apu, Apu+Gpu, Gpu alone. And all with 8Gb because the next tests need more ram than 4 Gb
