I found this video by OC3D and Tom says he was told by Corsair, that if you are going to, at some point, put 64 GB (8x8 GB) of DDR4 in your PC, you not only HAVE to buy them all at the same time - you also have to buy them in ONE pack.

1:30 into the video he's mentioning it, but I've been unable to find it in the review on his site.

This is purely out of interest, as I'm not buying new parts anytime soon.. But has anyone else herd this? Or know of any documentation? Is this only relevant to certain kits? Or is this the general rule?

That's what I'd have said too.. But he claims this comes from Corsair, according to Tom, so either they lie to be able to sell more memory here and now, or they don't know what they're saying, or they have some kind of documentation we mere mortals know nothing about..

It just made me wonder..

From what I've heard/read, buying it as a set guarantees it'll work as they've been tested to be compatible with each other. You can add ram later on but there is a slight possibility of there being issues arising because of some weird compatibility issues or something like that....

The reason to buy a kit say 32GB in a single 32GB kit, instead of 2 sets of 16GB kits is, the ram speed and timing has been tested to work with one another. Buying 2 sets of 16GB kits, even thought they are the same speed and everything, may not work well with one another. IMO it's just marketing BS, as long as it's the same brand with same timing and speed, you should be fine.

Thought so..

I've never had problems with my 2 sets of 3x2 GB Kingston memory running in Triple Channel.. They're running flawlessly on the 4th year now.. :)

I've written Tom asking if he's tested it or has been given any kind of documentation to verify Corsairs claims.. I'll post when/if I get an answer..
