Hi,

I just bought Acer XB280hk which is 4k and has g-sync and i'm going to buy a graphics card(not right now). I'm thinking about 980 sli or should I wait for 980 Ti?
I will crank up the settings as far as possible and I'm willing to play around 35 FPS in SOME games. What do you suggest?

If you're willing to go that low in terms of FPS in some games (the most demanding AAA titles) then get two 970's. Even for 4k I don't think 980's are worth it at this current point in time. 300 series/980ti (w/e they call it) are both coming soon and spending the premium on a flagship isn't worth it right now imo. But of course that's up to you to decide.

there will be no 980ti, there will be a titan x but they will be 1000$+ each

id recommend SLI 980s, or 970s but i think that at 4k 3.5gb is not going to cut it, the other option would be crossfire 290x but you have a gsync monitor so no, but SLI 980 will be able to max out most things with 45+ fps

If you really want 4k just do a 980 SLI and max out 1440p

The cheapest way to play at 4k smoothly is dual 290x especially the 68gb versions but 4gb is enough for now 3.5 not so much

Already has a 4k monitor, and you cannot use G-Sync with 290x's, so he'd just be wasting money either way.

P.S.

TL;DW, vram issue isn't such a big issue unless you're at lower fps anyways (OP might be as he said he's ok with 35fps so it might affect him) but to solve it, you can just turn the settings down a tad bit.

Wanna bet?

Nvidia just announced the Titan X, you don't think that they'll release a cut down version of it, you think they'll just trash all of the imperfect GM200s?

I mean it'll probably be their next series flagship, not the 900 series, but there will almost definitely be a lower priced version of GM200.

What did they do with the Kepler refresh?

Brought a cut down version of Titan as the flagship consumer card, GTX 780.

Rebranded the 680 as the 770.

Rebranded the GTX 660 Oem as the GTX 760.

And then they released a higher tier of the GK110 as the GTX 780 Ti and later as the Titan Black.

I have a single 980 and I can play all of my games on high settings, I can do BF4 on high w/o AA.

You only play on one of your monitors right?

Because I'd find it hard to believe that you get decent fps with 2x4K on a single GTX 980.

980 SLI will be the best option right now. You could wait and get dual titan x cards but that will be way more expensive. I have this monitor and 2 780ti's work fine for me, no vram issues yet at 3gb with low or no AA.
