Hello everyone

I could need some help from u guys w/ my first ever dual cpu workstation + eventually watercooling build. Ill use the PC mainly for maya,3ds max, c4d, ae cc and ps cc content creation.

specs.:

cpu: 2x Xeon e5 2650 v3

mbASUS Z10PE-D8 WS

ram: G.Skill Value, 4x4gb, ddr4-2400, DIMM 288 (gonna upgrade to 8x4gb later)

gpu: gtx 780 (maybe 2x not sure yet)

psu: Corsair RM850 (850W)

case: Corsair Obsidian 750D or Fractal Define R5

ssd: 1x samsung xp941 (256gb, M.2)

        1x samsung evo 840 (500gb)

wc:

rad: Alphacool NexXxoS Monsta, 280mm, 86mm

cpu block: 2x Auacomputer cuplex kyros Pro

pump: Aquacomputer Aquastream XT USB 12V, Standard editon

res.: Phobya Balancer 150, silver nickel

gpu block: Alphacool NexXxoS NVXP, gtx 780 (+backplate)

now my problem is if the radiator is overkill for this build and im also not confident about the gpu (gtx 780ti maybe or other ideas?) and ram (should i get ecc ram?).

as well i could need some opinions on what case i should use (silence is really important) any suggestions are welcome.

(btw i hope that this doesnt sound to dumb but im also not confident about which OS i should use :/)

thanks alot for your time :)

Since the Xeons support ECC RAM I would go with it since it costs a little bit more and gives you extra data integrity. For the case I'd go with be quiet! base 800 from be quiet! xD You can further make it more silent be using some neoprene padding wherever you feel like it. The 780ti I think would be best for you in this case. Well, the OS is your choice really- I'd go with 8.1 Pro and get StartIsBack.

please, ECC is only usefull for governements or huge science experiments... not a rendering rig...

Why not a 980 as GPU? But if you choose between the 780 and 780ti i would go for the 780ti

And the OS is probably win 8.1 best, and then upgrade to win 10 when it comes

Oh and can you please do a build log of the system? Looks sick

You sure? I have it in my server and it saved my ass a few times.

a server has data in its ram 24/7, while a rendering (usualy) rig doesnt (ofcourse it depends on the usage scenario) so chances of corrupted data are smaller. If OP thinks he'll have a use for ECC memory, its not wasted money, its just that he"ll likely not notice it.

You probably know more about the specific software you work with but im pretty sure that many programs aren't optimized to use 20 Cores / 40 Threads. You might benefit from getting Xeons with less cores but higher clockrates...

wow that was fast thanks.

also wanted to buy the base 800 but i think it doesnt support E-ATX/SSI EEB motherboards (does it?) :(

btw do u think that i could run the whole build w/out any fans? or would u recommend me to add another rad for this?

ive read some articles about gpu rendering and it looks like the gtx 780 and 780ti are better for it because of their 384bit memory and the have more cuda cores (correct me if im wrong).

Phanteks Enthoo Primo has EATX support and it can house massive rads. In your case I'd go with a single 480mm rad and put quiet static pressure fans on it. The downside is that the case isn't exactly quiet optimized.
