My build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bMHgNG

I intend to overclock the CPU and gpu will this build support it.

Also my ram is 1866 but my mobo says it only supports up to 1600 but pcpartpicker doesn't give me an error warning?

I don't think it does without custom bios, you could simply pick up a cheap z79 to do the job however.

Ok so I found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157531&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

But I want a motherboard that has built in wifi so how do I tell if that is included, isn't it WLAN something?

That board has WiFi AC built in.

It also has a random PCIe x1 slot in the middle of the board... O.o

edit: that slot is for the WiFi card.

So I still have to buy a wifi card? (how much are those) I would prefer an card with built in wifi if that's possible, so how do I check if it has that

If I remember correctly, 1600 is the highest standard for DDR3, all speeds above are overclocked speeds, I would expect it to work perfectly at 1866.

That motherboard comes with a WiFi card. Look at the 4th picture

That power supply is truly horrible. Here instead is an outstanding 550W PSU that sells for less from amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RJ8EKI/?tag=pcpapi-20

This specific PSU got a 9/10 rating from JohnnyGURU, and the main complaint was the high price at the time of the review. By contrast Raidmax PSUs don't live up to their advertised wattage. You want something like this XFX PSU (OEM Seasonic, one of th best in the business) to power your rig, not some crap like Raidmax to burn your house down.

Wow thank you but can you link that psu in pcpartpicker and not amazon?

Sure. I saw all the amazon overrides and figured you were buying strictly from amazon.

Also I noticed that you have an intel Xeon, I am not very informed in the processor world and was wondering why you chose such a processor over something like an i5 or i7 and should I get that for a gaming rig like mine?

I like this board for OC. Its similar to Asrocks but has dual bios and more fan headers.

Intel 4790 K - R9 295X2 - Gigabyte Z97-SLI - Corsair Vengeance Pro Black 1866 CAL9 - Corsair HX 1000 -Samsung 850 EVO SSD - Samsung HDD - H100I - Corsair C70 - G400 Logitech - Asus VS247H - WASD custom mechanical and QCKPAD!

Staples of LTT: Getting an 4690 K will resurrect your lost family members, AMD = More heat thus AMD = Satan.

I built my system as mostly a budget gaming PC, though I also use VMs a lot to run Linux from inside Windows. My reasons for choosing a Xeon E3-1231v3 over an i5 or i7 are:

1. Games are now written to take advantage of 8+ threads. Soruce

2. The XB1 and PS4 are both octacores with really weak per core performance, so I find it a good bet AAA games will be optimized mostly for more cores instead of for powerful cores over the lifetime of my CPU.

3. I couldn't afford a hexacore or octacore i7, since the platform cost for them is enormous due to high motherboard and high DDR4 costs, not to mention the CPU itself.

4. Thus I figured my best hope of running octacore optimized games rested in hyperthreading instead of higher clockspeed. I am guessing this because a 3.5 GHz 2C/4T hyperthreaded i3 beats the living hell out of a 4.5 GHz 2C/2T overclocked Pentium G3258 in games right now. And if I bought an i5-4690k I doubt I'd get it to more than 4.5 GHz. So I'd rather have the hyperthreading than the clockspeed. Lots of people here will disagree with me on this point, as unlocked Core i5s have been considered the go-to gaming CPUs since about 2009 or so.

5. I didn't want to pay for an i7-4790k and also didn't want to buy a new board when I had a perfectly good H81 board already with my Pentium G3258. Besides, my board has a 1.2V vcore limit that can be exceeded by a stock i7-4790k.

6. The Xeon E3-1231v3 is a tremendous value at roughly $250, when the i7-4771 sells for about $310 and the i7-4790k for about $340. It's basically an i7-4771 minus 100 MHz and minus the integrated graphics, which I do not care the slightest about since I have no desire to stream games. Here is a review showing it performing at the level of an i7-4770 in gaming and other tasks.

Overall I have to say it's pretty incredible. It runs at very low voltages (even lower than my Pentium G3258 at stock), has a pretty strong clockspeed of 3.6 GHz on all cores, gives me 8 threads, and keeps my GTX 970 at 100% GPU usage in games. It was a big part of helping me build a pretty strong gaming system for about $800 (I already had the hard drives and Windows 7).

Ok well then I only have one less question, based on my build for gaming, which processor do you think I should get?

I prefer the unlocked i7-4790k or a locked Xeon E3-1231v3 or E3-1241v3 for the hyperthreading since it keeps your cores busy when one of the main (software) threads assigned to a hardware thread stalls, instead of idling waiting for say something to be fetched from memory or for a result from another (software) thread to be computed first. I think most here would say you're best off with the i5-4690k. Core i5s are great gaming CPUs and definitely appropriate when budget constraints make an i7/Xeon a bad buy.
