So my school's computers are dinosaurs. (Who's isn't?) I was talking to my teacher and they said they were looking around at new computers, as well as chromebooks. Told them chromebooks were a bad idea (cause chrome os and the school keeps all the student files on a server) and I'd see what I could do. I've come up with 2 builds since it would be cheaper than buying something off shelf.

Since the school keeps all the student files on a server, just needed a small hard drive for os. Would one of these be better than searching for something online? Also, any suggestions to them? Remeber, this is a school, so they're going to need a good deal of them. No clue if they'll need an os. In usa and budget I'll guess $280 for each computer alone not including os..

What's your reason? If it's: Cause it's intel, im going to hit you.

its because the G3258 has MUCH better single core performance than AMD CPUs

so yeah the reason is because its intel, and its a very good reason

you cant argue with facts...

Intel is the answer. I work in a school as well and all the PC's are Intel based. We had some laptops with AMD APU's and they went after 2 years of use. I'd prefer Intel over AMD in schools for computers and desktops since Intel CPU's cane take more abuse and heat (at least in my work environment). They have a generally lower TDP than AMD (not by much but it does make a difference) and are power efficient. Besides when ordering our equipment we don't even have an option to pick AMD. Have a look on one of our suppliers website (it's UK based) as it would give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

EDIT: Do NOT build your own systems since they will be always more expensive. Try to look at some possible supplier websites and strike a bulk order deal. That's what we do. Recently we bought 28 workstations (g3420, 120gb ssd, 4gb ram, monitor) for 8.6k UK pounds- originally it would have been 10k.

Can I argue with money?

you said $280 per computer...

so you still have budget left

and no matter what AMD CPU you fit in that $280 budget, the G3258 still has better single core performance

Put in at least 8gb of ram and a 120gb ssd. Trust me, you don't want a hdd and 4gb of ram with a pentium. And it would be better if you went straight for an i3 instead of the pentium.

This is for a school. Why on Earth would I need 8 gigs for a school computer?

8GB is overkill for a work processing machine don't you think? xD

Yes, cause that's why all consumer computers that run Windows normally have 4 gigs of ram.

He is just jelly that they only have 4GB support in Middle Earth :D

No, the reason is that people don't think they need it ^^ but it really can come in handy. sure, 4 will work, but not as well and not for as long.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

8 gigs is not necessary. 4 is perfectly fine for a school computer.

If your budget is $280 the only other thing I'd recommend is to swap out the HDD for an SSD.
