What is the best way to stream games over the internet?

So, I have a beastly computer. but sometimes I go to a friends and want to play without my laptop melting into a puddle. 

 

My net isn't amazing. It is decent but not great. (5mbit up and down)

My computer has some good hardware

Base specs

I7-4790K

R9 290

16GB memory

-------------------

 

Does anyone know a good way to stream with decently low latency? Desktop sharing would be cool, but I don't think it would work well with low latency.

I don't know about solutions that allow you to stream on wan from your own computer but onlive offers something like it albeit from their own servers not your computer.

I'd guess PoE would be more reliable than wireless for this type of use.

The projects never end in my line of work.

I would have suggested Splashtop, but I believe you have to be on the same LAN for it to work. Does Steam Streaming support streaming over the internet? I know you can broadcast a stream for your friends to watch, but gameplay, i'm not to sure.

I have seen some of the streaming providers online and they don't tend to have the games I want.

That may be possible with a VPN to my home network. However I would have to test lag.

No, lol. I was just saying that is the best way to actually stream, or would seem to be. Non-local streaming is inherently going to have latency, and pretty substantial amounts too... especially without very high speed internet.

No matter how you slice it, that WILL incur a decent amount of latency. If you're using the same provider and live near a node, you might get 10ms or 20ms. But it'll be heavily notice-able.

 

If you manage to find a way, do let us know, but the latency would be a problem for anything other than say... turn based games.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Yeah, I figure it wouldn't be ideal. Although I think the ping is around 40ms max. I'm trying to think what would be decently playable for non-competitive, and what would just be too high.

Anything that would be fine would also be playable on a bad laptop like Hearthstone etc.
