Since I see a lot of people here saying biking is great, I decided to start biking again

Today I did 2 miles.

Don't really know about bike parts, but all I know is I have a Mongoose with 6 gears and shimano breakings.

Really had a good time. Hopefully this will cut off some weight.

I got into biking last summer. I haven't really touched it since.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

I did get to see this hella expensive bike at a highend bike shop. I costed like 10k, all carbon fiber, with like high-end disc brakes.

Only if there wasn't still snow on the ground here  :(

Shimano shifters and derailleurs are pretty much one of the best ones for the majority bikes, durable and good quality as long as it's not on the cheapy end.

@MattTheMayor this sounds more of a status update.

But Cycling has been a hobby of mine since elementary so I understand how you feel about this. I got into a couple Road Racing Competitions placing mostly in 2nd or 3rd due to the fact that I'm a sprinter but very bad at climbing  :(

Well that's fine. Be sure to be sitting properly when riding studies have shown that small mistakes in sitting can lead to impotency.

You're in off-topic so you're fine. I used to bike to college and back but would get there in a heap of sweat so stopped... Planning on getting back into it in the summer though, try and get rid of my love handles.

Biking is a great way to burn calories, but after I go into running, biking is kinda low end :P

Are they expensive bikes? Or like Schwinn?

No, they're sort of mis-matched. One is a mountain bike and the other two are BMXs. I can't even remember the make of the mountain bike. The BMXs are just a mix of Stolen (the brand, not actually stolen) fitbikeco, wethepeople and odyssey parts. They're fairly old, so they're not worth much, if anything.

I see, I was just in the market for a used road bike. gonna check Craigslist.

I just noticed you were in the UK, that's not gonna work ;)

I'll argue that campagnolo makes better groupsets than shimano, but only for the road. Off road, it's a toss up between shimano and sram.

I'm a road cyclist, part of the Lycra brigade, yet I've not done much this winter due to it being far colder than normal. I normally ride to school every day, a 3mile round trip, and in better weather a 20 mile ride every weekend is usually the case.

I've heard of Campagnolo but I don't see it very common here, I have a mountain bike and do causal cycling around the city and trails that we have around here, but probably in a few more weeks before I can do that.

Campagnolo can be quite expensive, and is rarer as shimano is so easy and cheap to buy. I've used both on a road bike, and by far camagnolo is the smoothest for the compatative groupsets. I lust after a bianchi carbon road bike with a top end campagnolo groupset, as they're like the ferrari of road bikes.
