ASUS today announced that all 9 ( Z97, H97)Series motherboards offer support for 5th-generation Intel Core ‘Broadwell’ processors, assuring a quick, safe, and smooth upgrade — immediately.

Why on cheaper h97 and not z87? Umg I'll skip then.

I believe the 8 series chipsets aren't compatible with Broadwell even with an update. Only the 9 series boards pledged compatibility.

I'm not upgrading to broadwell but is it worth to updating my bios anyway ?

I plan on reinstalling my win 7 as soon as w10 is available so I have a "clean" install.

Connection: 200mbps / 12mbps 5Ghz wifi

Broadwell isn't that much of an increase, its a power saving difference mainly for portable tech

I would expect even less as Broadwell is a tick in Intel's "tick-tock" release cycle. So I would say ~5% at best from the node shrink.

Plan to plop a Broadwell i7 into my Gigabyte UD5h Black if only because my 4770k internal TIM job  sucks big time. If I can sell my 4770k for like 150 id be happy.

Already have a nice OC on my 4690k. The upgrade would be negligible. If they made 6-cores at a price of $200-250 then I would hop right in.
