More like the supply of fresh cards is cut off from being out of production but a slight demand usually lingers around a bit from a few users going SLI to stay on the ball before the cards are gone. That is a small amount though and really its just vendors being vendors. Also the old series never sinks too low in price. Obviously why pick up a 750 ti if a 680 sank to 150 dollars new. Once the tech is completely old and outdated they then mark them with a clearance price.

It is just the way it is.  They want people buying the new stuff and if they lower the price too low on the old stuff they won't move the new stuff as much as they want.  Hell I wish they would change things so i could get SLI GTX 670 and SLI GTX 760 but the only way I can do that is when these cards are $100 to $125 used and that won't happen anytime soon or maybe ever.
