It is most likely pressure sensitive adhesive veneer.

EDIT: Nvm, jumped the gun by not reading the source first... he used vinyl. Doesn't look like 3M makes the one he used, but they have quite a few wood grain vinyls in the Di-Noc line.

 

You could even just go to a local auto decal guy, and they can print whatever wood look you want onto a vinyl sheet.
