So this has to be the most ridiculous build idea I've ever had...thoughts?

Ok if I go with this for my build instead,

Any thoughts on anything better for my moms?

I need the HDD, Mobo, OS, and CPU for $300...

I need the board to have onboard usb 3.0 headers and I would like the thing to play Sims kinda ok so she can start playing that again.

She has a 720p monitor so lol

Get a Z97 board, otherwise you will have to mess about with a bios update.

I would look at a better power supply such as the EVGA G2 - http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20750xr

Unless my XFX blows up on powering up, it's fine.

Not a single z97 board for that CPU and I'm not getting a bios update like on my board.

*also not trying to be mean but she said she wants what I have left so I'm not spending a ton of money ($300 max) to get her a OS, CPU, mobo, and HDD*

Can remove the card from your mother's build and keep it on the side as a backup. She can use onboard for what she does. For your build, grab a GTX 970.

Intel Xeon E5 1650 v3 @ 3.5GHz 6C:12T / CM212 Evo / Asus X99 Deluxe / 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 3000 Trident-Z / Samsung 850 Pro 256GB / Intel 335 240GB / WD Red 2 & 3TB / Antec 850w / RTX 2070 / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy X360 15: Intel Core i5 8250U @ 1.6GHz 4C:8T / 8GB DDR4 / Intel UHD620 + Nvidia GeForce MX150 4GB / Intel 120GB SSD / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy x360 BP series Intel 8th gen

AMD ThreadRipper 2!

5820K & 6800K 3-way SLI mobo support list

I can either go with

a ssd, 16gb ram, and a msi 960 2gb

Or

8gb ram and a xfx 3gb r9 280x

Only getting the cards because they are limited edition and I really don't wanna pay for the 970 version althought it might be cheaper but I know all there is some stuff on the 970 cards having 3.5gb instead of 4gb.

I would get the GTX 970. The deal with the GTX 970 VRAM is they have 3.5 gb ad the advertised speed but that last 0.5 gb is slower then the rest. It wont effect performance to much, its still probably better then 2 960s
