Which is the better APU?

Go to solution Solved by Analog,

From those two, the 6400K is better, but you should be going for a Kaveri. The A6-7400K is a good value (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113370&cm_re=apu_kaveri-_-19-113-370-_-Product). If you have some more cash to spend, you can go with the quad-core version of this chip - the A6-7600. The A10-7700K is also a great option but a bit more expensive. Probably worth the money though.

Hi guys,

I'm planning on building an HTPC in the future but I'm kinda torn between which APU I want to buy. I've been looking at The AMD line and I've set my eyes upon the A6-6400K, and the Athlon Kabini 5350. I'm mostly planning on just streaming/watching movies, light web browsing, light gaming and possible use of a download box. Thing is I don't know which one to buy. The 5350 is on the older AM1 platform, but has a quad core, and only has a TDP rating of 25W. The 6400K is newer, but is dual core, has a newer architecture, slightly better iGPU, and has a TDP rating of 65W. Even though it's dual core, the speeds are much faster than the 5350's quad core clocks. I also want to be able to expand upon it as well. What do you guys think?

Here are links to the processors.

The A6 is definitely better, but if you're going with an APU get a Kaveri.

If you're on a budget get the A10-5800k or the A10-7850k. They offer near 650 Ti performance.
