Hello, in about 12 hours the final batch of K7XX headphones run out. I was wondering if they would be good starter audiophile headphones, up until now I've just been using a headset (Logitech G970). If not then suggest another pair, about £150 for everything.

EDIT:

I listen to dubstep, rock and do a lot of gaming.

The Beyerdynamic custum one pro's would be one of your best options.

Don't think about the K7XX from their $199 price tag.  I don't believe these have any real competition much below $400, in an open backed headphone.  They are *excellent* and if I thought I could justify it, I'd buy a second pair (I already own the K7XX and the K712).  Consider you are getting a $400 headphone for half the price and you won't squirm too much if you later find the addition of a $75-$150 headphone amp is pleasant (although you very well might not need one).

As for being a "starter audiophile headphone", these are in my opinion where the law of diminishing returns really kicks in.  There are slightly better sounding headphones but you are very likely to end up spending two to six times as much to get them.

LOL!  I never did!  I would have defended a $199 special edition HD600/650 exactly the same way.

I don't know if these are strictly "audiophile" but I have a pair of Superlux HD668b's and I think there amazing, off my pc I just use the rear jack, but for my phone or Ipad I use a small headphone amp to jack them up a bit.
