What should I do:

1) get a gtx 770 to pair with my other 770

2) get 2 gtx 970 to use in my main rig and replace the gtx 550 in my media pic with the 770 that is currently sitting in my rig

GTX 970s.

But if you want, dual 290xs or a 295x2 is better

Sorry I'm part of the green team

depends on how much money you want to spend lol

exactly what he said.

for gaming at 1080p dual 770's will wreck almost any game (unless you use 8xAA, 2gb of ram is not enough for that)

The 2 970 are around 600

The 1 770 is around 450

If I choose the 770 I'll have to deal with the 550 in my media rig

OP has both the 770 and the 970 already, and the dual 290Xes and 295x2 are arguably better. Both setups trade blows at 1080p and 1440p, while at 4K the 290Xes and the 295x2 obviously pull ahead a bit.

I mean if you have the money for two 970's why wouldnt you get them?

But I would personally get a 980 for a little less and have the option to add another and only deal with the scalling of two 980's verses three 970.

I think the scaling of 2 970 is greater than the scaling of one 980

I may be wrong

With just one 980 yes two 970 can be better. But what I meant is that in the future when you want more performance you can get another 980 and two 980 will have better scaling than three 970's

I think the 970 will last a long time
