Sony Smartphone with 4K Camera [rumor]

samuel

Video recording: 4000 x 2000. Any oldish phone will have trouble opening a PICTURE in galery at that resolution. Heck, even the vast majority of PCs will NOT be able to play those videos! How ever, I expect HUGE oversampleing. It's not like having a FS700 in your pocket....

Oh and...20MP camera...the MP race is still here. All this possible with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU.

Completely useless if you ask me. Hopefully we will stop at ~13MP since that's pretty much the limit with your average smartphone sensor size, unless you want a ton of oversampling which is pointless.

People need to know that resolution =! image quality, so we can stop this megapixel race.

Meh, 20mp picture on phone is pretty useless. Take too much space. People will upload their "4k" pics to facebook/instagram anyway. Those companies should make a phone that can take picture in RAW format instead of billion pixel.

I don't think Instagram can even handle the full resolution of current phones. I think they are all compressed into a certain resolution when they're uploaded.

And the HTC One proves that megapixels ≠ quality.

4k pictures are old news ... an 8mp camera takes 4k pictures however 4k video ... well that is a whole new beast... the 20mp sensor is most like there for numbers

(1) high frame rate (2) ultra graphics settings (3) cheap...>> choose only two<<...

if it's never been done then i'm probably tryna do it. (((((((Bass so low it HERTZ)))))))

At above 13MP (and I think some of it happens as 13MP as well), the typical smartphone (note, does not apply to bigger cameras) sensor's pixels are so small that a single wave of light will hit multiple pixels. You can think of it as taking a 50x50 photo, and then stretching it to 75x75. The image won't look any better, it will simply be bigger. That's kind of what happens in these cameras with very high MP. The laws of physics simply does not allow it.

this is not a rumor since XDA-Devs get a sample or users get samples i can say this is real :)

Kinda useless if this is true, sounds like a waste of space and it will probably be mostly used in 1080p/8MP mode anyway, similar to pictures with Nokia's 808 pureview with 41 MP.

All this talk about the camera itself, haven't you wondered what storage media is the phone going to write to? 4K has an uber-high bitrate, so I'm guessing the video has to be compressed dractically to fit through the storage bus and onto the memory itself. Referring to both volatile and non-volatile memory - during recording/processing and for permanent storage.

Useless unless the phone has  250GB+ Of storage , wich it won't have
