How is music made using old PC Hardware?

I stumbled upon this video today and have noticed quite a few songs being recreated with old PC hardware (printers, scanners, etc.). How does one go about creating music using old hardware like the floppy disks used below?

Varying the voltage to the motors in the drive accurately creates vibrations, which moves (hz) to music. i.e, if something vibrates at 440hz, that is a above middle c.

Interesting. What is being used to control the voltage and automating the change in voltage?

It's basically a switching method. It's just the number of them per second you hear. The musical tesla coils operate on the same principal, and the F1 cars do as well, on RPM variation.
