I think its dead, the platters might spin because it has power but the actual key parts might be burnt.

Are the SATA cables in the HDD and MoBo?

Yeah i checked them. They are all good. And i saw some disk in my device management which only shows 3.96 gb or something. And i can't format it cus i need the data on it .

Have you tried using different SATA ports on the Motherboard?

And if you can, try it in another computer.

Im pretty stumped for ideas - i dont know much about drives etc compared to others on the forum.

Hey Alex Marcus,

Changing a drives PCB does not always guarantee you that the problem would be fixed, the drive would be running or the data would be safe. If you need the data on the drive, I would recommend looking for a data recovery company, although their services tend to be quite expensive.

Can you post a screenshot of where you see the drive (BIOS, device manager, disk management)?

If the drive's format is corrupted, you can try looking for solutions that involve third-party software and Linux systems.

if you know the pcb got burnt then why are you surprised your hdd is not working properly?

If you really need the data off that drive I suggest getting or borrowing a SATA dock. I had a malfunctioning HDD once and that dock saved my life. They are very inexpensive- around 20 USD or even less sometimes- you don't need anything fancy. However, if you managed to burn your HDDs PCB then you need to send it off to professionals who will take it apart and extract the data from each platter manually. It works but it is very expensive.
