Are apus really that bad?

No its not that they are bad, they are more designed for everyday tasks (1080p video etc)

and that a CPU + dedicated GPU at about the same price is usually better for more graphically demanding scenarios.

Also APU's are great for budget ITX builds

What are you using it for...? For gaming a CPU + dGPU generally works better at a given price point.

I know a10 7850 is the best but are there any others that perform similarly or just a bit less but cost way less?

The only igpu I've experienced so far has been the intel hd 4600 on my i5 4690K, and it did decently well in gaming, of course AMD's APUs are most likely more powerful on the graphical side, though I'd suggest going with a dedicated GPU instead of an integrated GPU, as they don't perform nearly as well.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Well I move quite a lot and can't tolerate gaming laptops as they are kinda pricey and my budget is limited so I sold my main pc for money for a new phone (my old one was yuck) and my remaining budget I put in my new mini itx build (only 500$ left) please suggest some thing
