hd7970 Ghz in sli vs buing gtx980

polyx95

Hello fellow geeks. I feel like it time to upgrade my single 7970ghz. I am wondering what would be a better option - sell my 7970Ghz(sapphire 6gb version with vapor-x cooler) which will cover about 40% of the cost of 980. Or Buy another 7970Ghz?

1) You CrossFire AMD cards, not SLI.

2) 6GB 7970? Waow.

If I were you and I had the PCI slots and PSU, I'd crossfire.

Sig under construction.

gpuboss is no bueno

but OP, I would say crossfire. In supported games, it'll beat the GTX 980 :)

Yes, that would offer better raw performance, but sli scaling and frametimes, the 980 would be better. And think of the power savings

I would personally crossfire, depends whether or not you want a single card solution.

-snip- And think of the power savings

While accurate especially with the current electricity costs, I find this being overused when talking about performance gaming computers.

I would crossfire only if you can get another 6GB 7970 because if you get only 3GB one then you will be only able to use just 3GB in total.

I wouldn't bother getting 980 but I would get 970 instead as there is not much performance difference that justify the cost difference.

Or you might want to wait for R9 300 series of AMD which should come soon (2-3 months is my guess).
