Bandwidth required for Youtube 4k?

xc3ll
Go to solution Solved by clementk,

I can stream youtube 4k with a 14mb/s connection.

Hello Guys,

I'm happy to see more 4k Content on Youtube and since I've got a 4k Monitor, I would like to enjoy it. My problem is, that my internet connection (6Mbps) barely handle 1080p. I could get a 16Mbps without much effort, but would that be enough?

Thanks for your answers!

I've only had 60, 70, 100 and 160 so I wouldn't know but I heard the average is like this:

3 - sd

6 - hd

13 - (slow) 4k

16 - 4k

depends on how bad your isp wants to throttle you really. 15 mb/s should be enough but I sometimes can't load 4k streams on a 60mb/s. Yay brighthouse networks.

I was able to watch 4K before, with my 35Mbs. Not anymore though, because YouTube fucked up and my PC can't handle it now..

I fixed it... apparently firefox didnt allow playback above 720p. Had to change something in about:config. Fucking firefox feels like its getting worse with every update.

Oh yes.

It's an amazing browser when it runs smoothly but I understand a lot of people can't afford 8GB of RAM and an i3+

Unlucky :(

Get on that 8GB Hype Train

Yeah, I'm wanting to get 2x4GB extra, but the money is the thing that is stopping me..

It doesn't help that RAM is so expensive now..

So much I want to upgrade... So little money

I've completely filled 8GB of RAM before just with Chrome.

Well, I don't live in the US, so no weird throtteling here :)

And I use firefox too. Chrome is almost unusable on mobile devices, because it wastes ressources. Not only huge amounts of Ram, but cpu and therefore batterylife as well.

And I don't want to spend hundreds of bucks on Ram on my Ultrabook just to use chrome....

With Firefox 4gig is more than enough for Win8 and Office-Applications.

And I get it, that chrome looks way better. So hey, just install fxchrome and omnibar of FF. So it looks and feels almost like chrome :)
