Hello Linus tech tips community!

I have not posted to much on here, the last thing I posted was about my first build and you guys helped a lot! :). I am build a Pc for a second room, and I need a little help picking parts to it. So I am going to use this computer for a few games like Minecraft, and doing a little screen recording, also some school work. So the processor I think I am going to go with is a AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor . Is this a good one for what I am going to be doing, or should I save up and get a I7? Obviously the I7 will do better, but how much better?   The second question I have, is I am going with  8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz Ripjaw Series CL9 (9-9-9-24) Dual Channel kit . Is this enough to play Minecraft and record my screen?  My full list can be found here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T4RXWZIf you guys have any sugestions, I would love some! :)

Thank you so much!

-MrMonteCristo!

Hope I was able to help! :D

I'm not a tech expert, but I do know a lot about Computers and Networking that I taught myself.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to PM me or reply to my post :)

Why do you have a 770 with a X4?

Also get a 290x cause that 770 IS WAY OVERPRICED

Plus you forgot to follow

@MrMonteCristo

Hello CoolaxGaming! Thank you for replying to my post. You think that the 770 is over priced, how much do they normally go for?

Also I do not understand that I forgot to follow, what do you mean by that?

Thank you!

Press follow on the top right to get notifications.

The 770 should sell for 200. The 290x, the fastest AMD card is FAR faster then the 770 and only 280 these days

Oh ok, thank you :)! I think I may go with a 290x now, what is the framerates with that in games, like Minecraft? Also If you or someone else knows, is 8 Gb of G.skills ram good for recording games(Like Minecraft) with fraps? Also is that a good processor I have there for what I am going to be doing?

Thank you! :)

For MC? Vanilla or modded? For vanilla its good. For modded not that good.

For mc, you would get a LOT even in 4k.

Here is the fps comparision between 770 and 290x - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1037?vs=1059

Just vanilla so I guess good :)! Thank you for your help! If you don't mind me asking, I do have two more questions if you know :). The first one is, 8Gb of ram good for recording(Fraps) games(Minecraft) and playing them? My second question is is the AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor a good one for that?

1. Yeha its good enough

2. No MC needs heavy single threaded performence. So I would say a 4690k should be better.

Well, there's a question of what do you mean by "a little minecraft and screen recording." If you want a gaming and workstation machine that's capable of handling demanding workloads, that's actually doable in your budget. Here's the build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($242.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($71.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($49.99 @ Best Buy)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 280 3GB TurboDuo Video Card  ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: BitFenix Neos Black ATX Mid Tower Case  ($33.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($41.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)  ($92.00 @ B&H)
Total: $782.93
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-17 20:28 EST-0500

This will be able to play pretty much any game, stream it and/or record it, edit and render videos, and do other very strenuous workloads. However for just minecraft and recording minecraft, this is overkill. If you could be more precise with what you want, that would be great.

dont buy a cheap i7 and higher-end i5 will be much better

this is what i recommend=  INTEL CORE I5 4690K 3.5GHZ (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372) I have one and i love it,  If you don't plan on doing overclocking get just the i5 4690   (not the "k" modle) (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116989)

Thank you for replying to my post @Lotus :). I play on Minecraft servers and signaly player. By a little bit of recording I mean like quick 2 minute videos, but I do plan on doing youtube so, with like 30 minute videos eventually. Thank you very very much for making a list for me, but I do want to go with some of the stuff I have(mostly just the graphics card and case :P ). If you have any opinions or suggestions for it I would love it :)! Do you think the processor I have now is good for Minecraft, do you think the PC I build in general is good for Minecraft?

Thank you very much @Enzo_Mofo for replying to my post and giving me a suggestion on the processor! :) I do have a good computer with a really good I7, this is like a 2ed computer for me. If you do know, is the amd processor I have a good one for Minecraft? also do you think that it is easy to upgrade the processor eventually?

Thank you guys both so much

Your CPU is pretty poor, but it should do okay with minecraft if you don't run with CPU intensive mods. You wont be able to fully utilize your GPU though.

You really want an 88x chipset motherboard with the x4 860k though. Really, an i3-4130 and an h81 chipset board would be better if you didn't want to spend a lot on the CPU/MoBo combo.

The GTX 770 is old. Get a GTX 970 or an R9 280 (or 280x) if you want to save money. Don't get a GTX 770.

I'm sorry i dont know much about AMD, the processor is fairly easy to upgrade, although as a processor is one of the most expensive parts, I reccomend buy one good one not buying cheap ones and burning them out.
