So, this is my MSI GS 70. As you can see, I have a broken fan. It's stupid loud all the time, and it gets worse when it decides to start making grinding noises. It's lovely. It's also my main machine, as my other laptop is.. not fit for travel. 

 

Any chance someone knows where to pick up a replacement fan? I saw one on ebay but it was way too steep a price for me. 

The only time I really notice the sound is when I'm in class and everyone stares at me.

Ouch, was gonna say amazon, but if ebay is bad it doesn't bode well. 

 

You could ghetto it from another fan, from an old laptop?

Aliexpress are reliable for the most part (it's like eBay, worry about the seller), they're part of Alibaba (owned by the richest man in China, Jack Ma.)

If your laptop is under warranty, msi should replace it free of charge. Although..... How did you break off a fan blade in a laptop?

MSI has a very short warranty, and I've had it for longer than a year so they won't do anything. And honestly, I was using it one day, put it down, went to bed, and when I woke up in the morning it was making a grinding sound. I opened it up and it was like that. No idea what happened to the missing blade but it's not rattling around in there.

The broken fan blade could cause the Problem, because it runs out of balance and hurting the bearing.

A new GS70 fan unit seems to cost about 50$. I guess the GE70 fan linked above wont fit, but im not 100% sure about that.
