Simple Audio Listen worth $149?

So right now I have a cheap $20 set of Altec Lansing speakers. The simple audio listens are on Massdrop with the lowest buy-in being $149.99. They may not be the best speakers in the world but are they worth $150. BTW, aesthetics do matter to me also I don't have the money for these. I have like $40 so IYHO are these worth paying on for a few months. I wouldn't pay any interest (Beauty of PayPal)

If that's the case, I'd say no. Get something cheaper like the Micca MB42 + LP-2020A+ Lepai amp. Linus hasn't reviewed any passive speakers that I'm aware of - active are only for simplicity and space-sensitive areas, which comes at a cost.

Honestly, there is much better solutions for $149.99+$11 shipping and at the current $179.99 its not even worth it. The Lepai amp is great and can be paired with just about any speaker. Right now I'm using it with the Micca MB42's and love it. I've also used it with a pair of Wave Crest Audio HVL-1's and that sounded even better but I dont have the room for those on my desk right now . Do yourself a favor and get the Lepai and then pair them with whatever speakers you want

Haven't heard them but this is what I see...  packaging, +$, velvet bags (you will probably only use once) +$$, touch controls?  BMW put those in their car stereos in 1990.  Looks cool?  +$$$

I hate to disagree with Linus but a good, passive crossover is often more expensive than a digital DSP based one, that can cost pennies per chip.  My living room system uses a MiniDSP that cost $100 and "bi amp" (two amps) that cost a few hundred more.  Why?  Because it's flexible, I can adjust it by plugging it in to my PC.  And because the equivalent, *permanent* passive crossover would have cost around $300... but only needed one amp instead of two.

If sound quality is your priority, look elsewhere before spending money on a line that no one has heard of from a company that is no longer in business.

I posted this a few weeks back when they did an earlier drop. I was all excited for them, did a lot of research... and then eventually decided to get something else. They look great, and im sure they sound great, but it came down to them having a lot of features I will not use. I bought some Samson MediaOne 4a's on Amazon for $70 and they are amazing. Unless you absolutely need a bluetooth speaker set with touchscreen, look elsewhere.
