Curious discovery (getting weird temps)

Heya LTT-People,

 

so today i've finished my new build but when testing i had some curious results.

 

First the watercooling parts list:

Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 420 top rad (3x 140 NB Black Silent Pro PK2)

Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 240 front rad (2x Corsair SP120)

Alphacool XP3 Light Acetal Edition CPU Block

Liang DDC Pump + Acetal Top + shoggy sandwich

Masterkleer clear/UV Blue Tubing

Alphacool Cape Coolplex 15 LT Reservoir

Alphacool GTX 970 M05 Waterblock

 

Secondly the heat generators:

EVGA GTX 970 SC

i7-3770k

 

Now heres the temps(All at 22°C/71.6°F ambient, All components running without OC (cept the GPUs factory overclock)):

Idle:

CPU(Average through cores): 24°C/80.6°F

GPU: 24°C/75.2°F

 

load(Firestrike Extreme combined test in loop for 30 mins):

CPU(Average through cores): 57°C/134.6°F

GPU: 42°C/107.6°F

 

 

All fans were running at a set 50%PWM(NB: 550rpm, SP120: 630rpm) and have a linear slope of 10% increase per 5°C over 50°C.

 

Things i've tried already:

I've reseated the CPU block twice, paying extra attention to having even pressure

I've replaced the stock thermal compound with Actic Silver

 

So my question is, is there something wrong with my i7 having such beastly temps or is that cpu just a freakin oven in comparison?

I'm not sure, i mean the temps are good, so at least you dont have to worry about them. 

 

Maybe it your thermal compound? The cpu is only at a 35*C delta, which is pretty good.. 

 

A dirty block maybe? I really don't know enough about this to give a trust worthy answer.

hmm okay, wouldnt have thought that the processor is a bigger heatsource by such a margin

..

edit: especially given the TDP of the processor is 77(following intels datasheet) and the gpus 145..

i mean, it might be a little high for watercooling, but thoes temps are perfectly safe

okay thanks for making me do that the cpu actually caps off at 57°C running the XTU stress test for 30 minutes when all fans are manual set to 100% i also noticed the rpm read on the NBs is wrong since those are connected via the included phanteks hub, even at 100% pwm it shows 600rpm even thtough the fans get audibly more air moving.

 

Setting all fans at 60%pwm in speedfan (barely audible) and doing the stresstest again brings the cpu up to 61°C

Seems like my i7 just reaches working temps really fast and then just stays near there.

 

Gonna amrk this as solved by airdeano as my concerns are lifted
