Trouble installing 670 drivers for linux

Jaybird

I'm looking to put my old 670 into my server and start getting some fake internet points from folding and such. I looked into installing the drivers but during installation I came up with xserver needs to be shut down before installation can continue. I found some information about closing xserver but nothing seems to be working. I'm curious if it's because I am using Debian instead of unbuntu or something else.

I'm currently out and about on break and was just thinking about this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For nVidia, just give up. Their open-source support is worse than nothing.

What i had to do to get my GTX760 to work with Ubuntu 14.10, is exactly as you described.

Basically, after installing, reboot the computer. Do not log in though.

Next, find another computer. Using the second computer, SSH into your server and stop xServer. You can then run their installer, but beware the heavy use of CLI.

After you are done with that, reboot the machine and everything should work again. If not, install an older driver and try it all again.

Now your halfway done, you will still have to get the f@h linux client to work with your GPU. And that is a whole other beast to deal with.

I tried following this, http://askubuntu.com/questions/320666/how-do-i-kill-the-x-server.  is "sudo service lightdm stop" the correct command to stop xserver? when I tried this, it said there was no such thing as lightdm.

mind you i have not tried what you have said, I am just trying to get you up to speed on what i have tried; just got home.

hey @MG2R , can you help me with this?
