So I have a I7-4790K, Noctua DH-15, and Asus Z97-A motherboard.

I am wanting to overclock my processor.

I watched another video explaining how to do so and failed with a blue screen so here I am.

Any tips? I am a complete noob. Should I just let Dual Intelligent Processors 5 do the overclocking for me since it came with the mobo? Or should I do it by myself in the bios. Thanks, anything helps!

Increase the clock baby steps at a time.

When stability drops, increase the voltage (again, baby steps)

Rinse and repeat until you get where you want to be.

And in case I didn't say it... BABY STEPS, OP!

The projects never end in my line of work.

Blue screens are part of overclocking, it doesn't mean you failed. Simply increase the voltage until you get stable results or temps get too high, in which case you'll need to decrease the multiplier. Also make sure to carefully follow an overclocking guide, not just some youtube clip.

Don't use over 1.35V core voltage. You should get at least 4.7GHz with 1.27V. That seems to be average for that chip. But remember that every chip is different.

The youtube clip I watched was from ASUS. Im still kinda afraid to overclock the last two times has resulted in blue screen on startup.

just increase the voltage don't be afraid . if for example your got a blue screen on 1.200v make it 1.210 on next restart then 1.220 on next if not stable .

Also Press F6 in Bios and put your CPU fans on manual then drag 3 dots on 60 on 40C 80% on 50 C and 100C on 60C and save the setting .

don't worry, bluescreens on startup don't damage your PC, it just means your overclock isn't stable. You're going to see a lot of bluescreens while overclocking, its completely normal. As I said, a detailed overclocking guide is always better than a youtube clip, even if its from ASUS. Just take your time and go step by step, overclocking is free performance, but you still have to work for it.

i was too, its fine, like that guy sad, baby steps, increase Clock by 0.1 ghz if blue screen, increase voltage

My windows wanted to restore to default once lol

I've got the same mobo, and CPU (except I'm using the Dark Rock Pro 3 by Be Quiet!).

I'm interested in your results...Please share when you reach the breaking point.  ;)

Well I've got mine to 4.7Ghz on core 1 and 2 and on core 3 and 4 I have 4.6Ghz since I did per core to get more out of the overclock. I am sitting at around 1.36 volts.(Not sure if I want to keep it this high) Max temps reach around 82c with idle at around 31c

I haven't OC'd yet.

Might fiddle with the clock timings this weekend...

i did 3 times windows restore and 2 time CMOS clear from 4.5ghz till 5ghz . and it took me 3 days to stablize every step 4.5 then 4.6 then 4.7 ...5.0ghz .
