On the prowl...Cherry MX Green

whatthe_fuzz

im sure most of you guys are like me and absolutely desperate to get your filthy cheeto infested hands on a cherry mx green switch keyboard (or not) but there is one major problem. the only one currently available is $116USD and it is NOT backlit...kinda sorta a major deal breaker.

anyone have any inside details over a potential red backlit cherry mx green switch keyboard? i really like the shorter 84key ones...

i feel like a kid in santas lap just rambling on about all the needs and wants i have...sorry for my "i want this.." template. :p

Like survivorx mentioned, I think CM has a board with a backlight and MX Greens (http://techreport.com/review/24461/a-first-look-at-cherry-mx-green-key-switches). I can't find it for sale anywhere though. But, I'd wait to see what Ducky is going to have available with their Shine 3 (I didn't and nabbed the DK9008G2 Pro: http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=467).

Yep, I managed to snag a CM Trigger with Green switch, had wanted to return it due to key caps being pretty worn, but the seller skipped town (so to say). NVM, I still have a pretty nice Trigger Green all the same.....I'll just look for replacement caps.

Then you should try the Model M, it's a joy to type on.....btw, typing this post on my Trigger Green. B) CM was supposed to release a newer version of the Trigger with black bezel, there was supposed to be a Green version, but they had said they would not be making Greens. Too bad, Greens are nice, the force needed is closer to the Model M.

The Model M I have doesn't look hideous, but then, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Anyway, what do you expect, they were made what, some twenty years ago, so the looks' bound to be somewhat dated. I'm an older guy, grew up well before computers were small enough for the home, and back in the days when I was using a 286 and a 486, they were all this white/ivory color, so I kind of am used to it. I find the Model M has a certain beauty to its looks, simple lines and all. I will never sell it, it's found a permanent home among my collection of mechanical KBs.

If you are looking for replacement caps Ducky has some replacement caps that are meant for boards with backlights.

I've seen some of the posts where you mentioned about your keycaps getting worn. If you really like that keyboard which i suppose you do because it has cherry mx greens maybe you could find a set of keycaps on sites like wasdkeyboards

Actually, that's an older picture, I'm now using the CM Trigger Green (main rig), DS II Special Ed Blue with white caps (2nd rig) and a CM Quick Fire TK Blue (third rig). So, I've put these into storage...the DS II in my previous pic was the Special Ed with white caps, replaced it with the 78 Version here.

What, no shoe? ;)

Nice collection! I ran into a guy at work with a Model M the other day (you would think being in a building with a bunch of programmers, you'd see more of them) -- typing on it was absolutely amazing.

People who have not tried typing on a buckling spring KB simply do not know what they're missing. When I was trying out the KB, I find myself typing just for the heck of it......wrote some gibberish emails to a few friends simply because I was enjoying the KB. And it's great for gaming as well, played UT3 (used this game to test gaming responsiveness of all my KB's) and the Model M performed admirably.

BTW, I do have a pair of shoe nearby.............. ;)  :D

I have a Ducky 1087 in Greens, but not cherry switches, ALPS switches, and when I got to see the difference between ALPS and Cherry reds they were very similar. So if anyone wants a green switch keyboard, get the Ducky 1087 and it's an absolute steal for $43.40 from PChome, who ships with express shipping.
