2011-3 Upgrade - Smurf Blender

dasr1985

With a lot of the programming software and rendering I'm doing in school I decided to go with a pretty decent upgrade on my rig.  I still game so that's not to say this is a system dedicated 100% to just development.  If I ever get to that point professionally you can bet I won't be using a single system for multiple usage at that point.  With that said here's what I'm upgrading from.

Case:  Corsair 750D (at some point I should probably just get a larger case...lol)

Intel i5 2500k - O.C. @ 4.6 Ghz

MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard

MSI GeForce GTX 660Ti Power Edition (x2)

Corsair HX 750 Watt 80 Plus gold Pwr Sply

Western Digital Caviar Black 500 Gb HDD

Hitachi 644 Gb HDD

Corsair SP 120 fans for all radiators

EK XTX 360mm Rad

EK XT 360mm Rad

EK Water Blocks for the GPU's and CPU as well as EK rotary fittiings

Swiftech MCP655 D5 w/threaded inlet/outlet and speed controller

Update:  Out with the old....  Awesome dust collection on the input filter, the woes of your PC being on the floor and owning a dog.... I luckily the inside of the case never actually gets that bad.  I clean that filter monthly and it still gets filled up.  I also ran the loop on the kitchen counter to clean the rads and stuff out for the new coolant I'll be using.

Are you going to upgrade the gpus?

I meant to put that in the main post above.  I will be upgrading the GPU's within the year, with the expense of this portion of the build I wasn't trying to go overboard on my wallet, lol.  The answer is yes though, but I'm still undecided on what route I'm going to go.  With the new stacked RAM tech that AMD is rolling out, depending on the performance of those cards, for the first time ever I might consider going team red on the GPU's.  That's a tall order though, I'm not an nVidia fanboy or anything but I do like to go with what works well for me.

Update:  Loop filling time!  I am going to be doing more customization towards color scheme on this rig, but for now I wanted to get everything up and running so I could continue with work/school.  Granted, I'm going to have to wait for the 5930k to come in still, but I didn't plan for that to happen and haven't purchased anything for cable sleeving or any paint work right now.  So for now, this is how the Smurf Blender sits (not yet unfinished), and don't worry, that BIG RED "E" is going to get attention; I just wanted to find a way to change the color without voiding the warranty.  Same with the RAM, anyhow, hope you guys like it as it sits for the moment!  Critics bring it on, I'm not a pro and I'm def up for any advise or comments!

Thanks!  One day I'll actually do an acrylic "clean room" style build but for my uses the ability to easily upgrade and conveniently break down a loop is one of those things I gotta have right now.  Luckily there was just enough slack in the tubing connected to the CPU block that allowed me to pull the processor out pretty easily.  I didn't realize that the 28 lanes that the 5820k only supports was gonna hose me with my GPU set up.  I figured it was best in the end to go ahead and spend the extra cash on a processor that supports the full 40 lanes and then do a GPU upgrade later, vice trying to stretch my dollar on a new GPU set up now and still be restricted by the 28 lanes now.
