Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago I decided to let someone upgrade my pc with new hardware. After a few days I got my pc back but now all my games lag and stutter.

I mainly play Guild Wars 2 and my fps has actually gone down since my pc was upgraded. So the first thing I did is test another game, I tested COD: ghosts mp, this game also lags and stutters. So I thought what about offline-games, I installed Fallout last vegas, same thing happend lows fps and stuttering. I have no clue how to fix this. Do you guys have any suggestions? I am not too good with computer so please keep it as simple possible. I should also say that my computer was upgraded by a professional.

My specs:

Gpu: geforce gtx 960

Cpu: Intel core i5-4440 3.1 ghz

Ram: 8gb

Motherboard: z97x-gaming 3

OS: Windows 7 home premium

The file I attached is a benchmark test, as you can see it shows that my games should run just fine. post-189585-0-06864500-1423262839_thumb.

1.Make sure power saving settings are not limiting your hardware. You can google this.

2. Run malwarebytes

3. Make sure you are on the newest drivers for the GPU

4. If the person did a bad job cleaning out old drivers it could also be a problem. Any NEW card on an old OS install I run this before installing the new card.

Download that, put a shortcut on the desktop. Reboot into safe mode (hit f5 key at startup). Run it and clean everything out (AMD and Nvidia). Install newest drivers from Nvidia's site.

If I had to guess 1 or 4 is the problem and most likely 4, but it could be 2 or 3.

The professional who upgraded my pc upgraded my gefroce gtx 650 to a geforce gtx 960, he upgraded my ma785gm-us2h motherboard to a z97x-gaming , and he upgraded my cpu (I can't seem to find my previous one but it was a 3.1 ghz cpu) to a intel i5-4440 3.1 ghz.

driver updates?

My gpu is definitely up to date so is my motherboard, I am not sure if cpu s have drivers, if they do they should be up to date also.

Hey deathjester,

I have set my power setting to high performance but that didn't do anything unfortunately.

So I treid to download maleware byes but it wouldn't let me, everytime I hit the non-commercial use download link it, I got an error.

I checked if my gpu runs the newest drivers and it does.

I haven't tried doing a clean install yet, is it necessary when windows was reinstalled before the new gtx 960 was put in? ( I am always a bit nervous to do thing like this because last time I broke my computer and the screen wouldn't turn on anymore)

A clean install should be 100% safe if you just click the right buttons (which is pretty easy), you probably had some bad luck the first time.

Check if the GPU is inserted fully in your mobo and check if the power cables are correctly connected.

I have just noticed that on my geforce experience program it says can't optimise Guild Wars 2. It also says that it can't optimise COD: Ghosts. It says it can't optimise borderlands 2 but I don't have that game installed. It tells me to run the game or change the settings, I have definitely run both games. So that leaves changing the settings but it's not clear to change it to what. Could this be why my games don't work properly? Could my gpu be malfunctioning?
