Cleaning Thermal Paste R9 290

mlecruz
Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

You can leave it be, or pinch (push it in with your fingernail) the cleaning device (coffee filter/microfiber cloth) into the edge.

I wanted to replace the thermal paste on my R9 290 as I may have done it wrong the first time around. I noticed that there is thermal paste on the ridges surrounding the GPU. Is there any way to clean it? Is it safe to leave it be?

Thanks for the quick reply guys! I was already trying to clean it's really hard without putting a little force on it and I didn't want that.

I use white spirit to remove thermal compound. I'm sure it's not recommended. but it's oil based so no conduction and its really hard to just buy rubbing alcohol in the UK.

I just make sure I fully clean it off afterwards so there's no resedue.
