Hi Forum

I decided a while ago that it is time to change some things arround my PC work area.

1. I decided to change my Monitor stand. As you can see bellow my previous monitor stand was a aluminium poker set that I had laying arround.
So it had to go and I have build a simple wood-stand to fit above my Onkyo Amplifier to hold the monitor.

2. Next thing was to change the appearance of my PC. It was in a old mATX Hedy case that wasn't doing a good job with airflow, cable management, expandibility and cosmetics.
And since I was changing a lot of things I decided to upgrade a few of my components inside and out as well.

3. The old System Specs:

i3 2120 @ 3.3Ghz / Stock Intel Cooler / 4GB DDR3 Patriot SL / Sapphire 6870 1GB OC / MSI B75MA-B45 /

Samsung 500GB / mATX Case from HEDY / Fortron 400W 80+Bronze / Philips 22" IPS Full HD

Pro-Ject USB box / Onkyo 9155 2x65W amp / Polestar Vanguard V-R1 / A4 White Keyboard for 5 Euros / Logitech G1 / Logitech F310

4. Upgrades:

- CM Hyper 212 Evo
- added 4 GB DDR3 Patriot SL
- Sapphire 7870 2GB OC
- WD 1TB green
- Corsair 300R
- Corsair CX500M 80+ Bronze
- Logitech G105
- Sennheiser PC330 Headset
- Noctua NF-S12B FLX (back of the case instead the corsair stock cooler)
- Steelseries QcK Mousepad

5. Upgraded Spec

i3 2120 @ 3.3Ghz / CM Hyper 212+ / 8GB DDR3 Patriot SL / Sapphire 7870 2GB OC / MSI B75MA-B45 /

Samsung 500GB / WD 1TB green / Corsair 300R / Corsair CX500M 80+ Bronze / Philips 22" IPS Full HD / Noctua NF-S12B FLX / Steelseries QcK

Pro-Ject USB box / Onkyo 9155 2x65W amp / Polestar Vanguard V-R1 / Logitech G105 / Logitech G1 / Logitech F310 / Sennheiser PC330 Headset

So lets see...

this is how it looked on the desk. monitor with the poker set

IMG_0028_zps0ed65cb2.jpg

starting to build a new stand for the monitor. the wood needed black paint to match the big table.

IMG_0269_zpsf53a001f.jpg

leave it for a bit to soak up the paint

IMG_0272_zps41a14f6e.jpg

ready to roll. I have put some pads on the bottom so it doesn't scratch my table.

IMG_0275_zps984420e7.jpg

Final look at it on the table without the poker set. Looks much better and it fits the Amp nicely.

IMG_0277_zpsd19967a6.jpg

Old 5 euro keyboard vs new Logitech G105

IMG_0284_zpsf0063fe8.jpg

And now lets concentrate on the PC. this was the old case in all its glory

IMG_0289_zps04944f20.jpg

Starting to change the components from old case to the new one.

IMG_0387_zpsf185a9e4.jpg

IMG_0388_zpscaa774a9.jpg

changed the stock fan for the CM 212 Evo

IMG_0392_zps1a2a59f9.jpg

Workbench number 2

IMG_0395_zps3e29fdcb.jpg

Slowly the components are finding their new home

IMG_0396_zps943db318.jpg

New GPU the Sapphire 7870 OC 2GB

IMG_0458_zps83f3262b.jpg

And the final product with all the upgrades done !

PS The Corsair 300R is the one with the window side panel

If it was a real corsair over haul you would use corsair cooling corsair fans and a corsair SSD

Corsair cases are the only good thing they make anyways

Their fans look good and their AIO WC units have pretty good performance considering the price

A guy needed exactly the 6870 for something so I sold it for 120 E so I paid at the end only 100 E for the 7870 ;)

What is that CPU like with the graphics card, does it bottleneck the GPU?

I can say it doesn't.... much :) You can see some differences with a quad core but not much. depends on the games. Some games show no frame difference what so ever. But I saw a few frames more on a quad at Need for speed shift 2. I didn't test many games. I tested this on a friends PC that is very similar but has a quad...

I have a similar setup, unless the game is relatively CPU dependent (like Skyrim-even then I have no problem playing Skyrim with high settings and TONS of mods), you don't see much difference and when you do the framerate is too high to notice anyway.
