Few questions? :)

Go to solution Solved by KemoKa,

Hey guys just got a few questions

Is there much difference between i5 and i7?

Any tips for building my first gaming rig?

What monitor is good for league of legends and games like battlefields and stuff ( Link please under £200)

Why is there such a price difference between the UK and US?

And also can you overclock a computer thats already been made by packard bell

Specs:

3gb ram

Intel pentium e6700 3.2gz

and no graphics card lol :P

for your other questions

2. for your first gaming rig, make sure that you check it out with us so that we can help you adjust it to what you need it to do and based on your budget. We will help you get the absolute best that you can for the money.

3. Any normal 1080p monitor should work out just fine. Go out and pick one. Depending on how fussy you are about color reproduction you can pick IPS or TN panels. TN panels are faster (in theory) but IPS panels have superior colour reproduction, contrast and viewing angles.

4. Price differences between the US and the UK are due to importing, taxes and lots of other bullshit that the people making the transactions pull to make more money. The UK isn't as big a market for custom computers and parts, and people over there are used to paying more money, so they hike the prices. It's not by that much though.

5. Chances are that Packard-Bell is running stock cooling, a motherboard with a flat chipset and a locked CPU. you would not be able to overclock it even if you wanted to. and there would be no benefit to it anyway.

yeah there is a huge difference between an i5 and i7 if youre doing multithreaded stuff like streaming, video editing, 3d rendering etc..., not gaming

not much difference for gaming for the i5 and i7, but I think the i7 pulls ahead for rendering and stuff.

Make sure to ground your case and touch the metal case periodically whilst building (to reduce possibility of static shock which can damage components). Don't touch contacts of components e.g. the gold fingers of the RAM or pins on the CPU (use zero insertion force to place the CPU). Mount the CPU, RAM and possibly GPU onto motherboard then mount motherboard into case. Cable manage tidily, just makes everything nicer to work with afterwards and better airflow.

In the UK we pay taxes to pay for the NHS and other public services, therefore prices of items cost more here in the UK than US.

Not sure about that last one.

I'll give you an example:

The Core i5-4690K and the Core i7-4790K are based on the same architecture, they have the same cache, same overclocking capability, and at a glance, their dies are identical. The only difference is that with the i7 you get Hyperthreading. So we're talking maybe a 30% increase in performance over the i5. But that's only for heavily multithreaded workloads. In single to quadruple threads, they are identical within margin of error.

i5 is enough for gaming, i7 will only net you a few extra fps and is not worth it unless you intend to use the extra features for video rendering and the like.

Tips:

Follow the instructions and watch guides on the internet

Monitor:

As for a monitor, you can easily get a good 1080p 60 hz and maybe a few 144hz monitors if your interested for 200 pounds

You could overclock a pre built but you would need to upgrade some components if you are looking to get a meaningful overclock out of it.
