Problem with weird artifacting

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

Thats pretty weird, first I've heard of both integrated/dedicated showing similar issues..

Could also mean it's not your 970, but your motherboard....

@ShadowCaptain @Faceman ^Thoughts on this thread... I got nothin when it's both iGPU/dGPU with similar issue.

Motherboard?

If it happens with on board I would assume MOBO

System Specs:

OS: Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit

CPU: core i7 4790k

GPU: zotac gtx 970 extreme amp edition

MOBO: Asus maximus 7 hero

RAM: corsair 16 gb

HDD: seagate 1tb

SSD:samsung evo 120gb

CPU COOLER: Corsair h100i

PSU: Corsair rm850

CASE:nzxt H440

recently build my first pc.I get this weird kind of artifacting while browsing images and gifs, a green screen while watching any kind of videos. Huge amounts of screen tearing, stutter and performance dips in normal desktop use. few games look like they are running on a potato such as skyrim i get around 20-60fps no mods ,metal gear rising revengeance around 23-24fps,sleeping dogs definitive edition 25-40fps no matter what the graphic settings i use in these games i get the same frame rate and in other games like tomb raider and batman arkham series i can run them on max settings and get the normal gtx 970 fps

my temps are normal for both cpu (35C-70C) and gpu (40C-60C). My voltages look normal as well. I don't know where the problem lies.

Example images given below.

Before RMA, try a FEW different driver revisions.. could be a major bug in the current driver + your hardware combination/Software combination = random potential issues (can happen to anyone)

Drivers

The latest obviously...

The one before that

The one before that.

Try them all, if it happens across multiple drivers, you can rule them out, and focus on RMA'ing your card thereafter.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

gpu is kill

or is gpu kill??

Honestly it looks like what happened when I OC'd my memory too much so you might have bad memory modules on your GPU.

i have tested it on onboard intel graphics the problem does not appear as often as it used to appear on gtx 970 but it's still there

It happens on BOTH Internal GPU and Dedicated GPU?

BOTH?

Thats not good....

I figured the artifacting is GTX 970.. but If its both...

Then...

Try Different Monitor CABLES. ie: DVIHDMI/DP cables.

Do a Memtest on each stick you have...

Could very well be the motherboard cracking up too...

Yep you'll be fine.

I hope it's a simple case of a cable damaged / swap it out and fixed.

i tried a different cable but the problem still persist

You DID say the artifacting happened on both your Intel HD4600 & your 970 didn't you...?

I know I myself came to that conclusion from the info you stated, but didn't actually get an answer from you on if it was that....

I thought CPU or Mobo when you said it was both iGPU and dGPU, but couldn't outright say one or the other...

As most would, yeah... figured better not second guess, and ask someone else...

hard to say really, I guess the OP will have have to try and eliminate as many things as possible

Could be a CPU isssue but it seems to be graphical anomalies generally attributed to a faulty card/board

try with one ram stick in place and swap ram sticks to see wich one is the culprit if theres a culprit ram-wise

would a faulty MOBO also cause screen tearing, performance dips, stuttering, green screen while playing videos in a normal desktop use and bad performance in games like skyrim, sleeping dogs, metal gear risisng revengeance

Well if the board is faulty it would stop the components communicating properly and could damage other components on the board

Since EVERYTHING connects to the board if its faulty it can affect a lot

Well, Guess its the MoBo then.

i will check MOBO and update the post

It's quite hard to check a motherboard..

Even eliminating things, using 1 stick of ram, only using your boot drive, the issues would still be there....

Very hard to test motherboard, the quickest way is to use another motherboard with your gear and see if it happens, which I doubt it would.

Grab a cheaper board, throw it together and test,....... and RMA your original broken one if possible.

/Thanks to the others for taking over & helping, it's 3:30am and Im goin to bed, FYI so you don't think I'm ignoring you :)
