Linus here are the specs of my pc
CPU: Amd FX 6300
Memory: 16GB HyperX 1600 Mhz
SSD: Kingston 120 GB
HDD: WD 1 TB 7200 rpm
PSU: Thermaltake Crossfire ready 550 W
MOBO: MSI 970A-G43
GPU: XFX r9 270 x2 (crossfired)

I have been benchmarking and trying really hard to get the most out of my system but no matter what i do my FPS ratings look like crap can you help me out?

I'd say CPU bottleneck. Look at your GPU usage in MSI afterburner (or similar) under load and you'll probably see why...

Core i7 4820K  |  NH-D14 | Rampage IV Extreme | Asus R9 280X DC2T | 8GB G.Skill TridentX | 120GB Samsung 840 | NZXT H440  |  Be quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 650W

With that PSU I would say power throttled and if that is not the case then it's a CPU bottleneck

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

PSU: Thermaltake Crossfire ready 550 W.....  with 2 gpu you need at least 700w

270 x2 uses at least 300w cpu 100w and with 550w for the rest remains only 150 w... you must include the 80% 550 soo... its around 400w psu...

This is so far from true.

SLI 960 can be done with 500W, it depends on what GPU's are used

AMD is notorious for High Power requirements though

Current: R2600X@4.0GHz\\ Corsair Air 280x \\ RTX 2070 \\ 16GB DDR3 2666 \\ 1KW EVGA Supernova\\ Asus B450 TUF

Old Systems: A6 5200 APU -- A10 7800K + HD6670 -- FX 9370 + 2X R9 290 -- G3258 + R9 280 -- 4690K + RX480

three issues with the build

FX6300 may be limiting your dual 270X power

also

the Mobo that you have have bad VRMs so it could be throttling your CPU

the PSU is not CF ready and dual 270s eat a chunk of power so you need a decent 700-750 watts PSU at least

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

If you run it through a calculator (like http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine)it squeaks in but just barely. If that PSU has any amount of age to it at all I'd say it's a part of the problem, but if it was brand new it'll probably hold up for a couple months until the strain nukes it.

So I'll throw my hat in the ring here and agree on both common theories: PSU is too small and CPU is bottlenecking. Those AMD parts just don't like to come out and play.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Monitor GPU loads with MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z while playing your games and see if your GPU's are hitting 95% usage or higher...

If not something is up...

Sometimes an issues can occur and a Reinstall of AMD GPU Drivers can fix the issue...

Sometimes it's just that the Games do not utilize the CPU power available and tank performance in lighter threaded workloads when using only 1-2 cores,.. which happens to others as well, not just you.

You can Overclock to gain performance, but it won't be a lot you'll get back doing so...

Figuring out if its a driver issue first should be the priority.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
