Two computers on one monitor

Drown

Hello everyone,

I currently have only one computer, but I'm thinking of buying a Mac Mini for development and everyday usage. I'd still need my PC for gaming and anything that is ressource consumming, so I would like to have both computers running off the same monitor.

Is there some sort of switch that can be used to swap from one computer to the other, without having to manually unplug/replug the DVI cable everything? I can use DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, that doesn't matter as long as it works. :P

I think I've heard of such a device before, if it does exist, then which would you guys recommand? Any "mainstream" brand that produce something like that? I don't want something cheap that won't last long and cause a quality loss in the image.

Thank you all for your help.

Can't you just use two inputs and then just hit the input button on your monitor when you want to switch? That's what I do when I want to switch my second monitor to something else I have plugged into it.

If the monitor has multiple inputs, just use two different ones and press the source button to switch back and forth.

Why would a switch need to be powered? I've got a HDMI switch like that around here somehwere that doesn't require external power..

I recommend them for compatibility. Depending on the length and quality of the cables(or the gauge of wire used), there might not be enough power form the HDMI source to power the switch.
