This sort of thing is what I love about Austin I probably won't build this but its really interesting to know there's a console killer builds like this out there that can be upgraded unlike console plus after a while the money you save from the cheaper games on pc can be put into a GPU, ram and other things that's what is great about these cheap pc's. Also someone new to pc gaming can build this because it can run allot of steam games then when they get into more power hungry game the money's there from the cheaper games. Another thing I love is that felling of accomplishment from building a computer, anybody else agree? also comment your thoughts to

A6?

*shudders*

Let me have a crack at a $300 PC.

I mean, it's not baaaaad, but it's certainly not brilliant.

I don't generally condone budget builds anymore, because saving your pennies for a little longer goes a long, long way. You get a lot more for your money by going for a sweet-spot.

This reminds me of Mutsuki's core build... I wasn't able to play beyond 720p medium before I added in another 4GB stick of RAM and changed up the dedicated memory to 2GB...

I'd rather get a console at that price.

I don't like recommending anything under $450-500, because it's gonna cost more in the long run to upgrade.

Wanna upgrade the GPU? Sorry, that dual-core will bottleneck it. Well the best thing on the FM2 socket is the 860K which will still be sluggish in many more demanding games, so if you really want performance you will then need to get a new motherboard too. And since the $300 build was using some cheapo PSU it probably will not support a decent GPU well, so there's a new GPU to add to the cost.

Spend an extra $100 up front, and then you don't need to buy a new motherboard, CPU and power supply when you feel like upgrading the GPU.

That A6 build for $300 will require an additional $300 spent if you wanted to upgrade it to feature an i5 with motherboard and a decent PSU for a GPU.

For example for less than $500 you can do a build with an i3 and R9 270X. You want to upgrade that $300 PC with a 270X? That'll require a better CPU and a better PSU... even going cheap that's gonna be $75 for an 860K and then $40 for a PSU plus the $175 R9 270X. Now you've spent $580 total for what a $450-475 build had. What about a year later if you want even better than the R9 270X? Perhaps an R9 290 or GTX 970 and a good enough CPU... unfortunately there's nothing better on the FM2+ socket, so you need a new board on top of the CPU and card.

The rig i proposed is fully up gradable.

@zappian

True, I would still recommend someone to save up a few more dollars and get an i3 and at least R7 260X or GTX 750 Ti to start. That extra $100 spent will go a long way. I expect the Pentium is gonna be feeling its age very quickly in any triple titles, as will a 260 with 1GB of VRAM, both would probably be needing an upgrade pretty quickly.

Could be, but IMO the CPU is a bit useless because you can't really OC it unless you put up a better cooler

What I'm trying to say is: It's nearly useless right now if you don't OC it, so you might as well go for a better CPU right away instead of spending money on a near stock dual-core.

Its not useless you can OC on stock cooler.

Most motherboards support pentium K OC , even b85 and h81.
