Borderlands, as far as it's delves into PhysX go, is terrible.

@OP: If you have it enabled and at full, using guns that are corrosive or slag can cause so much of the damn liquid to pool up that it causes your game to chug along at 10fps. The issue is that it backtracks the work load to the cpu end of things when it cant handle the processes, putting un-needed stress on a system. Only way to fix it is to reduce your PhysX quality to it's lowest setting, as the game still requires it to be enabled in some way to work correctly.

I am using a R9 280 Dual-X from sapphire and normally , i can max out games like tomb raider and far cry 3 and get stable 60fps but today , while i am playing borderlands 2, when i was shooting at some enemies , my fps suddenly dropped to 13 and the lag was awful , tried turning down the settings from high to medium but the problem is still there . Should i overclock my card ? whats a decent overclock for my card . I am using the MSI afterburner . Thanks in advance.

Do you have PhysX on? That's the only thing I can think. Also yes overclock, it's free performance.

What is a decent overclock for my card , i dont want the temps to be too high and break my card :P

I have mine at 1150, but I think I have a better cooler than you, still haven't seen it go above 72C. Honestly just bump it up 100MHz run Heaven Benchmark to see if it crashes and keep and eye on temps. If it crashes lower by 10MHz, if not up 10MHz. Repeat. Also set a custom fan curve. I've got mine to make sure it never goes too far above 70C, though 70C is more than fine.

hmm i see

but weird you could disable that in other games like Batman and Metro or let the CPU do the PhysX calculation

Well, the cpu does end up doing the calculations, just, not very efficiently. And physx not being able to be completely disabled is due to the game engine defaulting calling collisions on where the "goop" should be by after an interaction. Its a pretty dumb design flaw, though there are ways to get around it. You can access the "willowengine" file and change the "PhysxLevel=0" which brings it down past "low" settings, although still doesnt completely remove it.
