Cheapest GPU 1080p 60fps+

Go to solution Solved by zappian,

This one looks good fits perfectly in my budget :). But I'm still wondering what would be a better card the msi r9 280x or the asus directcu II r9 290.

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/350457/msi-radeon-r9-280x-gaming-3gb.html

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/365675/asus-r9290-dc2oc-4gd5.html

Dont buy the asus 290.

From what i have heard the cooler is terribad.

Hi, I've been having a hard time choosing a good gpu for my build. I don't know a lot about pc parts only the basics. My aim is to be able to play any game on ultra 1080p 60fps+. But I'm on a budget of €920 for my whole build. Right now I can spent €260 on my gpu. I know €260 for a good gpu is on the short side, but if you guys can find me cheaper replacements with the same performance for the other parts I can spend more money on the gpu. Please use tweakers.nl since I'm from the Netherlands. I'm so excited to finally build my first pc soon.

This is what I've got till now:

cpu: Intel Core i5-4690K Boxed                  € 225,-

mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI                    € 102,95

gpu:

case: NZXT S340                                        € 64,95

cpu cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO € 24,95

ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 8gb                             € 67,95

psu: Seasonic M12II Evo 620W                  € 72,90

ssd: Crucial MX100 256GB                        € 97,95     (I already have a 1tb hdd)

Total: € 660.35 (incl. shipping costs)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help.

r9 280x is the cheapest you can go to get a good experience.

At 1080p.

If you can get a 290 it would be even better ;)

There is this asus r9 290 for €260 but I heared it isn't very good. I'm talking about temperature and noise.

The sapphire is over my budget :/. Maybe there are other parts of my build I can replace with cheaper ones with the same performance?

Sapphire or MSI are good.

Gigabyte is also decent.

280X does fine at 1080p, although it will struggle to max out certain badly optimized AAA titles without dipping to 45-50 fps every now and again.

Definitely *Cough Ubisoft*

It runs crysis at high/very high. Looks amazing.

To OP. Just don't buy an XFX 280x, they're terrible.

Also, if you're set on an AMD card (after all, they're a lot cheaper than their NVIDIA counterparts at the moment. I would advise stretching the budget for a non reference 290. Not only will it perform better, but the 280x is a refresh of an old card. The 290, is a new card (newest in AMD's lineup anyway). Therefore you'll see more benefit in terms of technology support.

CPU: Intel I5-4690k (stock) Motherboard: Asus B85 Pro gamer RAM: 2x4 - GB Avexir kit (xmp is not enabled) GPU: XFX R9 280X DD Case: Coolermaster Storm Enforcer Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 1TB, WD 250GB PSU: Thermaltake Smartpower 750w Monitor: BenQ RL2455HM Cooling: 200mm front intake, 200mm top exhaust, 200mm rear exhaust Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Core Sound: Kingston HyperX Clouds and Logitech Speakers Operating System: Windows 10 64bit

yeah but the cheapest r9 290 is the asus and I haven't heared a lot of good things about that card. The other r9 290's are too expensive for me.

Ok, but if you can stretch your budget to get it, it'll help.

If not, well the 280x is still a great (albeit old) card.

EDIT: Am i missing something?

Yes, these are Netherlands prices, but it's all i've got :)

What if I get an i5 4460 with a msi gtx 970? it's €30 more expensive but I imagine it will boost my fps a alot. But will I still be able to do some little video editing with the i5 4460?

IMO, if you're doing some editing, then 4690k all the way. For gaming, the difference won't be as noticeable, but the 4690k will always be nicer.

I'm guessing a 4690k and 970 is out of the question?

Yeah I was thinking about that too. But I don't know if it's worth it. 40 fps on ultra still is very playable. I don't know if I want to spent €120 more for 70 fps.
