GTX 970 mayhem

BaconPie

Do you ever say anything positive for brands other than Nvidia? Honest question here

Apparently I'm not the only one, that noticed the obvious here. :)

Born to game, forced to work.  -_-

I speak from experience when I crucify amd 20141227_154248_zps64ea6c13.jpg

What happened with those cards to make you dislike AMD. I'm honestly curious because I may be using a 290 in my brothers build and most AMD fanboys aren't just gonna tell me their card is bad if it is.

what was wrong with your Lightning?

Other then being a horrible overclocker i had a horrible issue with the Display port and the monitor just not coming on when booting into windows.

See above. Over the years I just had so many driver issue. Dont even get me started on my 7970 Quad Crossfire setup. Would crash all the time. Unplayable in any game

Wait for the 300 series.

The 300 series is a few months away, the 970 is still a good card and 3.5gb is fine for 1440p.

If I owned one, I would not return it.

The GTX 970 is how it has always been. Nothing has changed. The card will still get 60fps in game X, 70fps in game Y, and it will still get score Z on 3DMark.

Feel free to disagree, but this is my stance on it.

I think at this point in time people are (with a few people on this forum not being in this group, but instead post useless banter about the card providing no sort of mature discussion...lol) more upset with the unethical business practice of Nvidia as opposed to the performance of the card.

Now with that being said, I don't think I would've bought either of my cards had I known they weren't providing efficient 4GB VRAM, simply because I'd like to upgrade to a 1440p resolution soon . :P

was just looking the benchmarks for 4k with sli'd 970s. they still seem pretty nice, Thinking about picking up another 970 though if the price does drop for them in the not too distant future. For me personally these things overclock like a monster, about 1.5ghz on the core if i can remember. mind you this is just crisis 3 benchmarks Crysis_01.png

Well I've had 2 280Xs and I currently have a 290, all of which were stellar overclockers (my R9 290 can push almost 1300 MHz on the core on max voltage). I've also never had any issues with the IO. I've had a 770 fry itself though, and my brother had to RMA his 970 twice for deafening coil whine. I guess everyone's experience differs.

enjoy waiting till June

For better performance, anything is worth the wait.

For better performance, anything is worth the wait.

By that logic you'll always be waiting as something new will always be right around the corner. The only reason it would make sense to wait for the 380/90x would be if you wanted to go 4k. For 1080p and even 1440p 970s/290/290x's are perfect cards.

If there was a R9 290X with a semi-passive cooling like on my MSI GTX970 then I would go for it, I need silence, but AMD cards are just too damn hot.

we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion...
