#1 - I personally would go with Z97 for the new features but other than that not a bad thing - I don't have any experience with low end (not calling the 970 low end, just PNY's cooler) PNY cards so I'm not sure that the cooler is like but it is probably just as good as a reference design - Dunno about you but I hate dealing with a mess of cables, I deal with enough cables at work so I would always go with at least a semi modular PSU

Other than those few comments it isn't too bad, performance wise.

#2 - Unless AMD releases Zen next week I'll also be getting the Krait Edition from MSI, so good choice unless you want something cheaper with the same function then I would suggest pretty much anything that is between $100 and $120 (so jelly of your prices in the US, any decent Z97 board start at around $140)

I prefer the second build pretty much because XFire 290X is faster than SLI 970, also there is an SSD in there which I would say is essential for any build in NA over $800

I went with an i7 because i wanted to add another 970 in the future and some people told me it's better in that case.

I have a large budget but the cheaper it gets the better it is.

Is it really that better?

It will be quite some time before an i5 is bottlenecked by only two GPUs. If you are only gaming you will see no difference since the i5 and i7 both have 4 cores, the main difference between them is that the i7 has hyperthreading which adds an extra thread per core but these threads are not as strong as each core and are not even utilised properly in most games.

Are you sure the ram on the 1st build is good ? I think it'is really cheap and I've had a bad experience with cheap ram.

Yo, RAM is RAM, if your RAM dies before warranty just ring up the shop you bought it from and request an RMA. The only difference between RAM (for gaming) is how it looks.

What do you think about it? let me know.

I think u should wait with getting gtx 970 until VRAM issues are solved. No need for unlocked processor.

If u were to go with i5 then getting gtx 980 would be perfect.

But if u want that i7 for multitasking and probably streaming then by all means go for it. :)

Get a i5 4690k, a better power supply. The case and ram is a bit overkill but they do look nice. I would get cheaper ram and a cheaper case and use that money along with money saved from the cheaper CPU to get a 980.

Great, not a fan of the case

If you are just gaming don't bother with an i7, go with an i5 with non flashy RAM and with that extra dosh get a 980 instead.

If you want better help please list your budget and other preferences.

No amount of waiting will solve this 'issue' as it isn't it an issue. Nvidia designed the 970 this way, they just failed to market it correctly.

As long as OP is playing at 1080p 3.5GB of VRAM is fine in all but a very few cases.

Change the Corsair pump for a Noctua NH-D15

Is it really that better?
